Gotham Adds Female Firefly For Second Season
"Michelle Veintimilla to ignite the show"
True to form,
Gotham has continued to add Batman villains -- both classic and obscure -- to its already impressive ensemble. Now, things among the rogues seem set to heat up -- terrible pun intended.
According to
TVLine, the second season of
Gotham will see the introduction of long-time Dark Knight rogue Firefly -- only with a twist. The traditionally male serial arsonist will be played by actress Michelle Veintimilla.
The official description of her version of the fire starter -- named Bridgit Pike -- is as follows: "Enslaved by her brothers, a notorious gang of arsonists, Bridgit Pike is forced into the family business. When she catches the eye of
Selina Kyle, the young Cat Woman and the soon-to-be-Firefly team up to put Bridgit’s firestarting skills to good use. But after a deadly encounter with the Pike Brothers, the meek Cinderella is transformed into a vengeful supervillain, hell bent on destroying those who have wronged her."
A relative unknown, most audiences will recognize Veintimilla from her work on Lifetime's
Those Who Kill, or
The Visit, on Broadway. Her version of the character seems pointed to come off as considerably more sympathetic than other versions of the character. While Firefly has previously appeared on live-action television in Season 1 of
Arrow, that take on the character was the traditional male version: Garfield Lynns.

Bridgit Pike will appear in the fifth and sixth episodes of the upcoming season of
Gotham. The Batman prequel series returns to
FOX on September 21.
