God of War: Ascension Gets Multiplayer

Sony Santa Monica revealed some new details about God of War: Ascension. The main story is that this will be the first God of War game with multiplayer support. Multiplayer is both online and offline with a maximum of eight players as it will offer a different and unique experience compared to most multiplayer games today. Not much has been revealed with the modes yet, but the screenshots shown so far have team-based gameplay. It will also have character-based classes and weapons/armor customization suitable to players’ playstyles. For those worried that multiplayer will take away work from the single-player campaign, the developers have said they are working full force on both modes even though the campaign might be shorter than past games.

The latest word regarding the campaign’s length is that it will be as long as the first God of War was. In addition, changes will be made to the traditional formula in the campaign from a revamped combat system to prompt-less quicktime events. Mutliplayer in third-person action games is interesting as the recent release of Tecmo’s Ninja Gaiden III tried that, but it's not good... along with the singleplayer game itself. Sony Santa Monica hopes to prove critics wrong, that multiplayer God of War is possible and also fun to play as well. Expect more of God of War: Ascension at E3 next month as one of Sony’s big games to show off, but in the meantime, you can checkout the first in-game footage of the multiplayer in action below.
