Futuristic Ghostbusters Animated Series on Horizon for 2018
Nearly three decades since their last big screen appearance,
Ghostbusters is making a comeback in a big way. Of course, there is the upcoming release of the all-female
Ghostbusters reboot starring Kristin Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones, and directed by Paul Feig. But now plans are underway to expand the
Ghostbusters franchise even further.
Sony announced plans for a
Ghostbusters animated TV series entitled
Ghostbusters: Ecto Force. Set in the year 2050, the series is said to focus on a new generation of Ghostbusters. According to Sony’s press release, the series will be set within the continuity of the
Ghostbusters cinematic universe, which presumably means fans should expect plenty of references to Feig’s film as well as the original series directed and produced by Ivan Reitman.
Speaking of Reitman, the legendary filmmaker will have a hand in steering
Ghostbusters: Ecto Force. The project will be under the auspices of Ghost Corps, a division of Columbia Pictures headed by Reitman and original
Ghostbusters star and co-writer Dan Aykroyd. Ghost Corps is dedicated to propagating the
Ghostbusters brand, so it is quite likely that we will get additional
Ghostbusters-based content in the future.
Ghostbusters fans who grew up with the original 80s franchise have seen animated series based on their favorite paranormal investigators before. A spinoff animated television series,
The Real Ghostbusters, aired from 1986 to 1991. As the name implies, the series featured the characters from the first two films and also inspired, among other things, comics and toy lines.
Aside from a projected 2018 release date, no further information, let alone promotional images, of the new
Ghostbusters animated series were released. But Entertainment Fuse will be sure to keep you posted!
