Freida Pinto Takes the Lead in Showtime’s Guerrilla

Freida Pinto (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) has been confirmed as the female lead in Guerrilla, a Showtime six-part miniseries set in the U.K. of the 1970s. Pinto will portray Jas Mitra, a political activist who, along with her husband Marcus, frees a political prisoner and form a radical underground cell. The part of Marcus has not yet been cast. Described as passionate and politically driven, Jas leads the fight against social injustice in early-70s London. Jai’s ultimate target is the Black Power Desk, a real-life, secretive counter-intelligence unit within Special Branch that sought to thwart all forms of black activism. showtime-guerrilla-frieda-pinto Guerrilla is executive produced by Idris Elba (Thor, Luther) and John Ridley (12 Years a Slave). Both men will serve multiple roles on the project: Elba also has a co-starring role in Guerrilla, while Ridley will write the majority of the series as well as direct the first, second, and sixth episodes. Emmy-nominated director Sam Miller (Luther) will helm the remaining episodes. Production on Guerrilla is scheduled to begin later this summer, and will be simulcast on Showtime and Sky America. As soon as a premier date is announced, Entertainment Fuse will be sure to fill you in!
