It looks like the cast of X-Men: First Class might be within one degree of Kevin Bacon. The Golden Globe- and Screen Actors Guild Award-winning actor has been offered a role and is negotiating to star in the upcoming Matthew Vaughn film as a villain. However, Deadline reports that the villain Bacon may or not be portraying is unknown at this point.
The casting news is interesting for a number of reasons. For one, Vaughn has been casting relatively unknown actors, or at least not A-list celebrities. If this rumor about Bacon is true, then he will have broken the mold. Also, most of the actors in the project haven’t been in the industry for a long time, whereas Bacon has been in the business for over thirty years, with his debut performance being in National Lampoon’s Animal House.
Although Bacon will for a multitude of reasons (experience, age) stand out from the rest of the cast, he should make for an excellent addition and perhaps peak the interest of older generations. That is, of course, assuming that he accepts the role.
Bacon received a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for his role in the television film Taking Chance; he most recently starred in My One and Only alongside Academy Award-winner Renee Zellweger.
