Double Helix Games Acquired by Amazon
Wednesday night Tech Crunch
reported that Amazon has purchased Double Helix Games, developers of Xbox One exclusive
Killer Instinct and the upcoming reboot of
Strider. Amazon provided TC the following quote:
"Amazon has acquired Double Helix as part of our ongoing commitment to build innovative games for customers."
The deal includes the staff at Double Helix, as well as all the IP they control.
Killer Instinct is in active development for Microsoft, so presumably the purchase includes a plan for its future, unfortunately Amazon has not spoken up about what that might entail.
Strider, however, is still set to release later this month. Microsoft has later said that they will continue work on
Killer Instinct, but with a different development team that is unannounced at this time.
We have been hearing rumors about Amazon getting into the video game market with a console or dedicated device, could this be their first step? We will keep you updated as the story unfolds.
