David Ayer releases first picture of Jared Leto as The Joker
"Will Jared Leto put a smile on your face?"
Taking on the role of The Joker after Heath Ledger was always going to be a Herculean challenge who to follow him as Batman's nemesis. Oscar-winner Jared Leto (
Requiem for a Dream,
Dallas Buyers Club) is going to be the Clown Prince of Crime in Warner Brothers' adaptation
Suicide Squad as a part of the DC Cinematic Universe. Now writer/director David Ayer has
tweeted the first picture of Leto as The Joker.

As you can see the picture is replicating the iconic cover of Alan Moore's
The Killing Joke, one of the most famous Joker stories, telling the closest thing to an origins story and was used as an influence for
The Dark Knight.
Suicide Squad has assembled an all-star cast, with Will Smith, Margot Robbie (
The Wolf of Wall Street), Joel Kinnaman (
The Killing) and Jai Courtney (
A Good Die to Die Hard) in the major roles of Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Rick Flag and Captain Boomerang. Viola Davis is set play Amanda Waller and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (
Oz,
Lost) has recently been cast as Killer Croc. Ayer also used Twitter to post the
first picture of the whole as they go through a read-through of the script.
Suicide Squad is set to be released on August 5, 2016.
