Dark Horse Wins Record Number of Gem Awards
Dark Horse Comics had a record turnout at the 2013 Diamond Gem Awards. While DC Entertainment stole the show with six, the most awards given to a single publisher, Dark Horse wasn’t far behind, boasting the most for an Independent Publisher. With five accolades, Dark Horse Comics set a personal record for itself for most Gem Awards received in a single year.
Steve Geppi, Diamond’s president and CEO said of the awards, “We established the Gem Awards to give comic retailers an opportunity to recognize the vendors, titles, and products that have been instrumental in helping their businesses grow over the past year.” It’s as much a celebration of comic shops as it is the great titles and publishers that help them thrive. The Gem Awards are a staple in the comic book industry, and Dark Horse Comics is extremely proud to be recognized.
Dark Horse won in the following categories: “Licensed Comic Book of the Year” for
The Star Wars #1, “Anthology of the Year” for
Dark Horse Presents #26 (for the second year in a row), “Trade Book of the Year” for
The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia, “Original GN of the Year” for
Hellboy: The Midnight Circus, and “Manga TP of the Year” for
Lone Wolf & Cub Omnibus Vol. 1.
Dark Horse’s president and founder Mike Richardson called the Diamond Gem Awards, “one of the best ways to measure our success as publisher.” It will be exciting to see what they have in store for 2014, and if they can live up to the high standard they set last year.
