Dark Horse to Release Matt Kindt’s Dept. H
Dark Horse Comics will soon release a new comic series from Matt Kindt, writer of
Suicide Squad, Pastaways and
Men of War.
Dept. H is Kindt’s latest series as both writer and artist. His breakthrough comic,
MIND MGMT, was published by Dark Horse Comics from 2012 to 2015. In
Dept. H, Kindt is joined for the first time by Sharlene Kindt, his wife, who will provide colors.
Dept. H is a type of locked-room murder mystery but in an unusual environment – underwater. After the smartest man in the world is murdered, Mia, a special investigator hired to determine what happened, takes the case. Mia has her own connection to the murdered man. Each issue of the series will take place over 24 hours. Can Mia get to the bottom of the murder, with a group of suspects all with things to hide, while disaster awaits?
Kindt received a great deal of acclaim for
MIND MGMT, an intriguing series with a complicated story. Early blurbs indicate that
Dept. H might be another strong series from Kindt. Junot Díaz, Pulitzer-Prize winning writer of
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, says “This is flat out fantastic. Classic Matt Kindt—mesmerizing, strange, soulful.” Paste Magazine calls it a cross between “sci-fi Jack London,
The Abyss and the criss-cross espionage of Kindt’s previous material.” Graphic Policy labeled
Dept. H as “
24 meets
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.” These are only some of the high praise offered by early readers, so it certainly seems like Kindt has a strong follow-up to
MIND MGMT.
Dept. H will be released on April 20th. The final order cutoff of issue #1 for stores is March 28th, so if this sounds like your type of series, make sure your local comic shop has reserved a copy of
Dept. H for you.
