Craig Robinson to Host Karaoke Themed Game Show
Comedic actor Craig Robinson has shown impressive musical chops on such hits as
The Office and
Hot Tub Time Machine. Therefore, the multi-talented Robinson would be the ideal fit for
Caroake Showdown, a new half-hour game show that can best be described as
Cash Cab meets karaoke.
Initially planned as a one-off special,
Caroake Showdown will get an initial 10 episode order by Spike TV. The premise for
Caroake Showdown is much like
Cash Cab: the host/driver (in this case Robinson) picks up unsuspecting passengers who become contestants in a televised game show. These contestants then sing their favorite songs, finish lyrics, and act out songs in return for cash prizes.
Along with
Cash Cab,
Caroake Showdown recalls the popular “Carpool Karaoke” segments on
The Late Late Show with James Corden. Of course, the primary distinction is that “Carpool Karaoke” features celebrities, whereas the contestants of
Caroake Showdown will be non-famous people. Corden, who is himself a noted comedic and musical performer, had Robinson on his show last year to perform “Sexy Public Domain Songs.”
In addition to hosting duties, Robinson will serve as the show’s executive producer. EP duties will also be handled by Howie Mandel, Alice Dickens-Koblin, Peter Herschko, and Brian Veskosky, with CORE Media Group as the production company.
Caroake Showdown will be filmed in New York and Los Angeles for an expected 2017 release date.
