Neonomicon #2 – Review

Within this issue, Alan Moore sparks controversy with some of the content in the latter part of the comic. The comic includes nudity, sexual activity and acts of sexual violence. Whilst controversy can attract lots of readers just to see what the dilemma is, it does not always mean it is for the better. I’ll explain that later on.

The series continues to follow agents Gordon and Merril, now with a lead connecting a series of crimes. Merril works out that they are all somehow influenced by the writings of H.P. Lovecraft; in turn this leads them to a sex shop that is purely for H.P. Lovecraft fanatics. Going undercover they wish to check it out and discover the owners and regular customers are part of a sex cult. Things from there make a turn for the worst.

Uncanny X-Force #1 Review

I really hope that Rob Liefeld isn’t getting paid for that title still… that being said X-Force re-launched with the moniker of “Uncanny” this month. I’m not sure why the last volume of X-Force was cancelled and re-launched, but I can assume that the whole zombie-rip-off-Blackest-Night-thing didn’t boost the sales like they wanted forcing another re-launch of the series.

Off the bat this series has the writing of Rick Remender going for it. Remender’s most recent writing work being The Last Days of American Crime, a title from Radical Comics that was very good (9.5 good!). The issue begins with everyone’s favorite character Deadpool talking to himself as he infiltrates an underground temple of sorts. He has on what’s become the standard X-Force costume of Black and Silver, which makes him stick out like a sore thumb in the well lite temple.

Morning Glories – Teasers and News

You would think that by the third sell out Image would learn to just print more issues to begin with, but no, no they didn’t learn that yet. Morning Glories has been the most talked about Indie book and very likely Shadowline’s best seller thus far. So it should come as no surprise that the second issue is going back for a third printing and that the third issue (which hasn’t been released yet) is also going back for a second print. Also released from Image and Shadowline, is a batch of teasers with the same phrase and flower on each of the teasers. I will say that the Marvel style marketing is really paying off for Image. Nick Spencer must love it as well, since he’s become comics new golden boy with projects with Robert Kirkman and Marvel already underway for next year. Personally I just finish “Bad Kids go to Hell” so that I could see for myself any comparison between the two, but one day, one day soon I read this damn book.

Tomb of Terror #1 Review

Fans of old school horror rejoice! Tomb of Terror brings you four tales of terror with black-and-white artwork reminiscent of your darkest nightmares, and filled with chilling twists. The fourth tale is unfortunately a boring three-page long short story. It’s still worth buying, however, to see Man-Thing, the Son of Satan and Werewolf by Night within pages of each other.

Man-Thing takes the number one spot in a story known as “Descent of the Beast.” For the moment he has regained his memory and attempts to save a boy from two trigger-happy racist hunters. The story is done by Paul Hornschemeier.
