Young Allies : Cancelled

After six issues, Sean McKeever’s (known for his work on Teen Titans) series Young Allies (part of the Heroic Age launch) has been cancelled due to lack of sales, with the solicited issue seven never going to print (although McKeever did mention on his Twitter that it was still only in plotting stage, there is no “lost issue”).

At the back of the last issue, McKeever writes a letter that even though this series has been cancelled, he assures readers that this is not the end of the characters that were a part of Young Allies. His main mention is to next year’s “Arcade” crossover between the worlds of Young Allies, Spider-Girl and Avengers Academy. Starting in November, Spider-Girl (formerly Arana) is going to have her own ongoing series and Nomad is going to continue to be in the back of the Captain America books, with no mention of what will be in the future for character’s Toro, Firestar and Gravity.

Angelus #6 – Review

The lead up to Top Cow’s massive crossover event Artifacts, has been a long one (there have been mentions of this five years in the making) and has kept many fans on the edge of their seats, biding their time to leap head-first into the series. The six issue lead in mini-series (Angelus) has now finished and without disappointment. The issue starts with a recap of what happened in the previous issue, showing that Sabine had used the power of The Wheel of Shadows to transform Baptiste’s partner Finch, into an elderly lady, which spurred the final confrontation between the two.

Another Crazy Image Teaser

It’s a new week so that must mean a new batch of crazy teasers from Image. Well they haven’t let us down yet! This time we have a Lucha-Libre Sumo-Wrestler from the looks of it… and what’s this? His ankles are impossibly thin! I’m all for the suspension of disbelief, but come on! I still haven’t a clue what this title is about or even called. I’m sure if I scoured another site I could easily find the answer, but where’s the fun in that. I will say that the more I learn about the comic, the more it comes off as trying to be shocking for the shake of being shocking. Getting “hard” over murder, wanting to be in someone’s colon like cancer, the universeaving a dong and boobies. Maybe after reading the book I’ll understand the connection between all of these teasers, but for right now it’s just trying too hard for me to care.

What Ever Happened to Image Comics?

Back in the day Image used to give companies Marvel and DC a run for their money. It was now the Big Three, not the Big Two. But over the last decade, the Image fandom has fallen largely and they no longer stand out like they used to. Whatever happened to Image?

Brief History

In the early 1990s, several freelance illustrators that were doing popular work for Marvel Comics grew annoyed with the company’s policies and practices. A main complaint was that they were only being paid standard rates, with low royalties with their heavily merchandised artwork and new characters. Upon approaching the Marvel President, Terry Stewart, they asked for more but he refused to meet their demands.

Witchblade #139 – Advanced Review

For fans of the new Artifacts series, this issue is a nice tie-in. The story is touching, but if you are more into the violence and carnage caused by the Witchblade, you will not be seeing it here.

She is forced to see a psychiatrist who must decide if she’s fit enough to return to duty. Character Affinity : Harley Quinn

Harley Quinn is a character that, as an average reader, usually knows nothing about, but she has a lot of dedicated followers that love her zany personality and actions. A lot of people still don’t know who Harley Quinn is, but her history is collected here to get you familiar with the beloved cupid of crime.

Harley Quinn is one of those rare characters that was first on television before making the jump to comics. She first appeared in Batman: the Animated Series. The writers, Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, were originally only going to put her in one episode entitled “Joker’s Favor.” They had no idea that Harley Quinn would become such a hit with fans. She was a huge success and they continued to use her in the series as Joker’s sidekick. It was not too long after that when she appeared in the comic book world. She first appeared in “The Batman Adventures #12” published in 1993 teaming up with her now long-time friend Poison Ivy in a battle against Batgirl.
