Voting Tidal Wave Crashes Pilot Season Poll

Readers want to be heard!  Over the weekend, the Top Cow Pilot Season 2010 poll saw a surge in votes causing the service provider to shut down the poll days ahead of its close.  As a result, the publisher is extending the deadline to vote and the period to read all Pilot Season 2010 titles for free digitally to Monday, December 8 at Midnight PST.

“After reading this year’s line-up of Pilot Season contestants,” says Atom! Freeman, Top Cow’s Director of Sales and Marketing.  “Who’s surprised that they broke the Internet?”

Image Reveals Butcher Baker: The Righteous Maker

After nearly three weeks of teasers (most of which we didn’t post) Image has finally revealed their mystery comic titled: Butcher Baker The Righteous Maker! The series is being written by Joe Casey and drawn by Mike Huddleston. The name is funny (due to the false rhyme), but after three weeks of either goofy or gratuitous sex scenes I’m not really sure who this book is for. I have nothing against adult content and frankly it’s practically expected from Image, but the random scenes taken completely out of context have really diminished my interest in the series. The cover is still considered a teaser as well so who knows if we’re to expect four more teasers this week, but as it stands I’ve had my fill!

Legendary Pictures Comes To Comics

Box-office hit production company Legendary Pictures (which produced such titles as The Dark Knight, 300 and Watchmen) is about to try their hand at comic book production! They will begin marketing graphic novels in 2011 and become Legendary Comics. But will the comics be stuff made of legends, or is this just another company looking to make another quick buck?

To show they mean business, the company will also be adding a “legendary” (too cheesy?) veteran editor as their new editor-in-chief, Bob Shreck, who has previously been the editor for DC, IDW, Dark Horse and Oni Press.

Holiday’s and Superheroes

Since it’s the Thanksgiving season, I’ve got a very special treat for this specific holiday. As we all know Thanksgiving is when we get to spend time with are friends and family, and be thankful for what has happened to us at this specific point in time. However, what about the Superheroes? They have special skills, abilities, and responsibilities that govern them to spend their time fighting the good fight against evil instead of spending time with family. So do heroes get holiday seasons off to just kick back, relax and spend time with their fellow heroes and family?

Spider-Girl #1 Review

When a cover like this one boasts “the only things standing between you and the most synapse-shattering super hero debut of the decade are your hands and this cover” It is a little too enthusiastic, but partially true, which is surprising considering there are many things that could turn a reader off right away. Like the fact that May “Mayday” Parker has been abandoned for the already frequently appearing Anya Corazon.

After losing her abilities and fighting against Kraven and his family, Anya has returned and has taken on the mantle of Spider-girl.

Morning Glories Drops it’s Price With Issue 7

Morning Glories is probably one of the most talked about books of 2010 and Nick Spenser has become a breakout writing talent because of it. He’s already working on a project with Robert Kirkman for his Skybound line at Image and is working on DC Comic’s Agents of Thunder. I’m pretty sure he’s got a project brewing at Marvel too. So with issue #7 Morning Glories is doing the unheard of… it’s dropping it’s price. Here’s a book that has had third printing of the first two issues and second printings for the the next two and because of it’s success it’s dropping it’s price. I have to commend them on that.

The Man Named Deadman!

With Boston Brand being the main star of Brightest Day, have you ever wanted to know more about this ghost of a hero named Deadman? Well now’s your chance to get to know the acrobatic hero who has helped more people in his life as a ghost, than alive!

Deadman was created by writer Arnold Drake and artist Carmine Infantino in mid October of 1967. The character first appeared in the 205th issue of Strange Adventures. Boston Brand operated under the acrobatic name, the sensational Deadman, while as a human working at Haley’s Circus. Before the events of Crisis On Infinite Earth’s, Boston Brand wasn’t a jerk like he is portrayed in modern times. When Boston was killed by a man named The Hook, his final words were “… Gee from up here the guy with a hook for a hand actually looks like he has a gun”! And with those final words, Boston Brand was killed. The only reason Boston Brand became Deadman is because, a being named Rama-Kushna wanted Boston to get his justice against the man who had murdered him.
