Witchblade #140 – Advance Review

Emotion abounded in the last issue and this story gives readers some good old fashioned carnage with some great humor and nicely done art. The series in general has a lot to offer and I think this issue helped capitalize on its potential. The pacing issues people have complained about in previous issues of Witchblade are non-existent here as Sara and Patrick are quickly catapulted into a case with interesting new characters to help and hinder their case.

Raven on the CW?

After a successful decade of Smallville, the CW is looking to follow-up their DC comic adaption with another, much more surprising one. Raven, a member of the Teen Titans who has never appeared solo before (the only exception being her short mini-series that ran in 2008), may be the star of the CW’s next tv series.

It is highly probable that the Teen Titan’s will not appear on the show and it will focus solely on Raven. The possible differences the show could have from the comic could be outrageous, considering how different the CW’s short series Birds of Prey was from the original comic book series.

Batman Inc. # 1

Bruce is back, but this seems to be one of the few titles he’ll be starring in which is sure to send the other Bat-Titles into a sales slump. It’s… interesting having two Batman’s but unlike the path Marvel chose with Captain America, DC has taken a different approach.

Batman… well that doesn’t work anymore. World Batman (Bruce Wayne) is heading out on his new mission to create and train a Batman for every city. Dick will remain as Gotham’s Batman, while Bruce travels the globe interviewing and taking applications from other superheroes.  His first stop is Japan to recruit a crime fighter named Mr. Unknown.

Grimm Fairy Tales Myths & Legends

Fans of Zenescope’s Grimm Fairy Tales have a new ongoing series to look forward too, with more scantily-clad women and big bad wolves gracing it’s covers. The series takes place after the events in Grimm Fairy Tales #50. Raven Gregory (writer of the Wonderland trilogy) & artist David Miller take on the first story arc in the series, returning to characters from the first issue of the original series. This includes Brittany, returning from the first issue of Grimm Fairy Tales, with something coming for her in the arc “Red Riding Hood.” It will be a five issue long story arc, a similar number to how long the rest of the arcs in the series will be.

For those unaware of what the series is about, Grimm Fairy Tales revamps classic children stories and makes them suitable for adults rather than kids.

27 Sells Out… Or Does It?

Yesterday, Shadowline — An Image imprint — released the first issue of 27, a story about an up and coming musician that’s trying to make it to his 28th birthday. Frankly I forgot that it was released because I didn’t see it on the shelves of my comic book shop — DJ’s Universal Comic’s shout out. Then today I received a press release saying that the book had sold out at the distribution level which has been a growing trend with Image titles lately. Well it didn’t strike any chords with me until I read an article on Bleeding Cool about how the book was sold out 2-3 weeks before it hit the shelves and that it’s mostly due to a number of the books being damaged.
