Versus – Bendis VS Claremont

Kevin and I were talking about the subject of Brian Michael Bendis’ current run on New Avengers and how the characters spend way too much time talking to each other. The subject of who makes their characters talk more then arose and of course Chris Claremont came up because he’s notorious for doing the same thing. We decided to compare Claremont’s run on Uncanny X-Men (circa 2000’s) to Bendis’ run on Avengers (circa 2008 and up). What we decided was that they’ve made the characters have realistic personalities of people you don’t want to realistically be around. If you don’t know what we’re talking about then… you should read more comics.

Lady Mechanika # 1 – Review

After waiting what seemed a long time after issue zero, Aspen’s latest series created by Joe Benitez kicks off with Lady Mechanika issue one. The mysteries and questions continue to rise as Lady Mechanika is still trying to figure out her past.

The story starts by revealing another mechanical woman, and she is being hunted down by a group of mercenaries. She is found at the city of Mechanika, the same city where Lady Mechanika is seeking refuge. She hopes to seek more answers about the deceased woman’s mysterious creation. From the already strong preview of the series with issue zero, issue one of Lady Mechanika is a great follow-up. Everything is improved on with the art and the storytelling, although it does still have room for improvement for this to be an outstanding series.

We last left the countdown with Vega from Street Fighter, so let’s pick up the countdown with number 15!

15. Time for the first female in my Top 20, and she is quite the character! Her name is Moonstone. She first appeared in Captain America #192. First a member of the Masters of Evil, she later joined the newly-formed “heroic” team Thunderbolts, and even became a member of Norman Osborn’s Avengers as Ms. Marvel. From early on, Moonstone had always been a manipulator and one who puts herself first. As for what she will do in the latest reincarnation of the Thunderbolts is anyone’s guess.

Critical Millennium 3 – Review

Thomm and company return to earth for the launch of the space ship that will seek out new planets for the human race to occupy and eventually destroy. Before we get to their landing we are shown a scene from the year before when Thomm sold off his grandfather’s company to pay for the space expedition. It’s a chilling scene in the board room in which the heads of the company tell him he’s ruining a great company. The scene ends with one of the members pulling a gun and shooting himself.

Cyclops #3 – Review

This book is coming out quick, but frankly… not quick enough! The thing about Cyclops that people glancing at the pages will miss is the abrupt, yet perfect ending that each issue has. Just when you’re not sure where the book is going, BANG! It’s over in a heart-beat at the highest point of anticipation.

The third issue marks the start of the “Hero” storyline which is four issues total. The first storyline “The Recruit” was about Doug joining Multicorps, Inc. The second storyline is more about his role in the media and his new found stardom. The stage is set for another conflict that has erupted on the boarder of Chile and Argentina. The UN announces that it will step in and end the conflict that is raging between the two nations.
