Superpatriot: America’s Fighting Force – TPB Review

If Robert Kirkman wasn’t writing enough as it was, he has written another mini-series with Superpatriot: America’s Fighting Force. First appearing in Savage Dragon #2, created by Erik Larsen, he has frequently appeared in the Image Universe mainly as a supporting character; now he is once again in the spotlight. The story starts with Superpatriot saving his children from an abduction by some men with Nazi markings on their uniforms. There is then a quick flashback before his android days during WWII, fast forwarding to his more recent crime fighting days. The volume is laced with more flashbacks whilst at the same time Superpatriot is trying to make progress with his personal life. Throughout the rest of the volume, in a very large nutshell, the Nazi men are trying to gather forces bringing back certain ways of Hitler and declaring war.

DC Character Affinity: Swamp Thing

Created by Lein Wein and Bernie Wrightson, big vegetable guy Swamp Thing first appeared in House of Secrets #92 in the 70s with the name Alex Olsen. set in the early 20th century, when scientist Alex Olsen is caught in a lab explosion caused by a co-worker, who wanted to kill him for the love of his wife. the explosion from the chemicals physically altered Olsen into the Swamp Thing. After the success of the short story, Swamp Thing #1 debuted by Wein and Wrightson now based in the mid 1970’s and featured a new character named Alec Holland as the monster. The origin is almost the same except that this time the explosion was due to sabotage. Now Swamp Thing is pretty much a rip off of marvel’s Man-Thing (I know its a funny name) that was created  years before Swamp Thing. They look pretty much the same with similar backgrounds. Even, Wain worked on Man Thing before Swamp Thing; is amazing that marvel never sued.

Boom! is heading to Emerald City Con this weekend. If you live in the area and don’t know what that is you’re probably not going. If you’re new to the world of comics Emerald City Con is the Seatle area comic convention that happens around, you guessed it this time. They’re will be a slew of publishers there, maybe some comic announcements and variants! Here are some very cool variants from Stan Lee’s trifecta of books and I have to say that I don’t really go for variants anymore, but I would still consider getting them. Pretty bad ass from the looks of it. Also included is the Boom! signing schedule where you can get artists draw on your “Get-A-Sketch” edition of Darkwing, The Muppet Show and Cars. If you’re going to Emerald City Con hit us up on the comments or in the forums and let us know how it is.

Shipping in May – Archaia Press

You know what the worst part of solicitations is? Finding out that one of your favorite books is due to ship for another two months! I don’t know if I can wait that long to read Cyclops again! I might just have to learn French and have it shipped over seas! Not really I couldn’t afford that and so I’m very thankful to Archaia for releasing Cyclops here in the states, but that would be an awesome present! Here’s another batch of releases this time from Archaia Press and a whole two months ahead. Of course most of this will probably ship in April, but then that ruins the dramatics at the beginning of the article. Beside my favorite Cyclops is the hardcover edition of Days Missing: Kestus which is another great book. Looking for other options? Keep reading then.
