Dark Horse Comics Presents #1 – Review

Twenty five years ago, yeah… that is right, twenty five freaking years ago! Dark Horse began their brand with Dark Horse Comics Presents! It was an anthology book in black and white that showcased different short stories, plugs to upcoming series and comic strips among other things. The range of stories could cover action stories, sci-fi, drama, comedy, the absurd and pretty much everything in-between! This was a book that anyone could find a story for their taste. But unlike other anthologies, this book almost instantly gave birth to what we called comic masterpieces. Books like Concrete, Sin City, Hellboy and The Goon were given their start or were featured in this book with major success. But time came and made us forget about this book, all its glory days and fun it offered to us comic fans. Thankfully like the phoenix that rises from the ashes Dark Horse Comic Presents is back and in full color!

What do you get when you combine a super intelligent boy with a butt kicking Dinosaur that together fight crime? It’s called Super Dinosaur, Image comic’s newest comic about a boy who is super intelligent and his crime fighting Dinosaur who uses a giant mech suit to fight against other villains. The Story is written by everyone’s favorite zombie writer Robert Kirkman with art by Jason Howard.   The story is about a young boy named Derek Dynamo, he is the son of the famous Dr. Dynamo, creator of the mech suit that Super Dinosaur uses.  What makes this story even weirder is that Super Dinosaur is a talking dinosaur and he was discovered in Dynore a secret land underneath the earth where dinosaurs like Super Dinosaur live.  Together they are out on a mission trying to stop Dr Max Maximus, Derek and Super Dinosaurs arch enemy.

Talking ‘Jake Ellis’ With Nathan Edmondson

Jake Ellis has become quite the success for Image Comics and for Nathan Edmondson. With the recent extension of Jake Ellis I had the chance to interview writer Nathan Edmondson about Jake Ellis and what’s to come with the title and how it came to be. PA) This past week with the release of Who Is Jake Ellis #3 it was announced that the series would be extending from five issues to fifteen. What are your feelings on the success of the series?

The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck Volume One

I grew up on old Disney comics.  Printed in Spanish-my native language-and sold at pharmacies and supermarkets on cheap, heavy paper, these stories were a huge part of my childhood.  There were humorous, creative and showed a different aspect of Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and the Richest Duck in the World.  At the same time Duck Tales aired on television, with more adventures set in this Duck Universe.  It wasn’t until later, much later, that I discovered that this world had been the creation of one imaginative man, Carl Barks.

Twilight Guardian #4 – Review

It’s a shame that this is the fourth issue, because it really seems like the series has just begun.  The fourth issue isn’t perfect and actually breaks away from the formula that was very consistent throughout the first three issues. Troy Hickman and company continue to show why this book won Pilot Season in the first place. Top Cow would be crazy not to give the series at least another mini. That fact is this and Echoes have been the only series to come out on a timely schedule, that fact alone warrants another series at the least.

Soldier Zero #7 – Review

I was wondering when this title was going to start feeling like it was written by Abnett and Lanning and it’s with this issue that it happens. There was just a certain layer missing from the previous two issues that kept them from being a Abnett and Lanning book that’s very apparent in this issue. They explain the Soldier Zero “suit” in more detail and add a layer of humanity missing from the other half of Stewart’s personality.

Preview Time – Super Dinosaur #1

Here’s another preivew, but not the last of the day. This is Robert Kirkman’s (The Walking Dead, Invincible) new book Super Dinosaur about a little boy who’s a genius. His grandfather and his business partner find dinosaurs alive underneath the earth and well you know what I can’t continue talking about it. I’ve already read the book and thankfully I’m not review it otherwise it would get an ear-full and probably a “2” on the scale and only because the art is decent. Any ways, check it out for yourself since you’re probably a mindless Kirkman zombie… enjoy!
