Preview Time – Spaced Warped #1

We’re back with a large preview of Spaced Warped 1 coming from Kaboom! It’s the first ten pages of the book and frankly it looks pretty funny. It avoids most of the usual jabs at the source material and switches it up enough to be different. If you can’t figure out the source material… I have nothing to say to you then. Enjoy the preview and here’s what Boom! had to say about the book:

Far away, in a land long ago…there was an orphaned farm kid with daddy issues trying to rescue an orphaned princess unaware of her daddy issues! In the tradition of ROBOT CHICKEN: STAR WARS and SPACEBALLS comes a loving, affectionate parody of the greatest science fiction franchise of all time! The first of a two-issue mini-series, this is a fan-pleasing romp that skewers one of the greatest adventure stories ever! SPACE WARPED #1 debuts this June written by Hervé Bourhis with hilarious art by Rudy Spiessert. This title ships with a price point of $3.99 and a Diamond Code of APR110907.

Validating Johnny Storm’s Death

The Human Torch has been dead for a few months now, but due to the monthly nature of comics we’re still dealing with his death in the pages of Fantastic Four / Future Foundation and Amazing Spider-Man. Most of the time in comics when a character dies we keep moving forward and there’s little to no time spent dealing with the characters death. When Batman “died” I can barely recall a tear shed for him even from his closest friends. With Johnny’s death it’s been different as there has been not one, but two issues dealing with grief and mourning.

Suicide Girls #1 – Review

If you don’t know what the Suicide Girls are then start by googling them and then check back here. Hopefully you didn’t do that at work since you’re probably going to get in trouble. Any ways they have a comic now from IDW that was released this past week with a story plotted by Steve Niles, Missy Suicide and Brea Grant. That’s right three people plotted this bad boy out and it turned out like three people plotted it.

Xombi #1 – Review

My first thought upon finishing this book was, “Man DC is really ripping Vertigo off.” That is to say that the parent publisher finally produced a DC title that feels like aVertigo book. The key things that support this statement? The book seems to have no tie to the regular DCU, it’s weird and very different and has very unique characters that wouldn’t normally fit in with the normal DCU.

Tony Stark’s House For Sale

That’s right the house seen in Iron Man 1 and 2 is for sale. Here’s what it doesn’t come with: Sexy Models, Cars, Iron Man suits, crazy lab in the basement, a landing deck. Tony Starks, War Machine, pepper pots and probably most of that furniture. Does this some how affect Iron Man 3? Doubtful, but if someone out there really wanted to pop a squat where Iron Man was living this is their chance. At the very least if the have an open house you could go in and take a bunch of pictures wearing one of those chest piece toys and run around like an asshole.

Dark Horse Digital Launches… Then Crashes, But It’s Up Again!

This time it’s actually a good thing when a server crashes. It means that Dark Horse is going in the right path since the demand for their comics was so high that it crashed their servers. Nothing like beating expectations. You should actually be happy, because you’re going to get more free digital goodies out of it. Here’s what Dark Horse had to say: Earlier today, Dark Horse’s iOS app and digital store went online and opened for business! Even after extensive load testing, demand for Dark Horse digital comics was still too high for our servers!  Thousands of fans rushed to download our digital comics, resulting in intermittent service outages.

Image Firsts: Elephantmen #1 Review

The beginning of Elephantmen is a perfect opportunity for
more people to begin reading this comic book, which is encouraged by this issue’s
heartbreaking story and loveable characters, despite the lackluster art only
brightened by a barrage of colors.
This reprint of Elephantmen retells the tale of Ebenezer
(Ebony), an Elephantman feared by most of society except for a little girl that
engages him in conversation.  The
little girl, Savannah – like the desert, she points out – continually asks Ebony
questions that bring back painful memories and give us more insight into
Ebony’s past.
