Character Affinity: Thor

The best of both worlds
that is what Thor is all about. Thor is both a son of Asgard and a son
of Earth or Midgard. You might discover Thor from Marvel Studios’ hit
movie, but don’t let the movie confuse you with its Hollywood-tinkered
origin. Read the true comic book origin here.
Thor
is one of several powerful ancient gods of planet Earth; he comes from
Asgard as he belongs in the pantheon of Norse gods. But his Marvel comic
debut was in Journey into Mystery # 83 back in 1962. It was
created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Larry Lieber. They created Thor as a
way to contrast their previous creation, the Hulk. How can someone beat
the strongest person there is? Easy… You make him a god.

Title Announcement – Kevin Smith’s The Bionic Man

It’s official now unlike before when we talked about it at c2e2 or when we asked Phil Hester about it. Today, Dynamite Entertainment announced that they will be adapting Kevin Smith’s The Bionic Man script into a comic much like their adaption of the Green Hornet. Guess who’s at the forefront of this? Phil Hester of course! I think it goes without saying that if you enjoyed Green Hornet (We did!) then you’ll probably enjoy this book from the same creative team. There doesn’t seem to be an official release date, but there are tons of covers like this one from Alex Ross.

Character Affinity: Odin

Odin is the ruler of Asgard and the father of Thor, Vidar, Balder and adopted Loki. He was created by the combined creative minds of Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. He first appeared in Journey Into Mystery #85 and has now returned to the living thanks to the efforts of Matt Fraction. Odin’s father was the first Asgardian, Bor and his mother a frost giantess, Bestla. Bor was the previous King of Asgard. He was killed by a time-traveling Loki. When Loki wanted to exile Thor from Asgard he resurrected Bor. During his fight with Thor, Bor is killed… or re-killed to be accurate.

Last Mortal #1 – Advanced Review

Two-time
loser and petty thief, racked with the death of his only friend, Brian,
Alec contemplates suicide in an abandoned warehouse
along the pier in Philadelphia. He reflects in his loss as tears run
down his
face and a pistol tightens in his hand. As his thoughts race back to
yesterday,
he puts the gun under his chin and pulls the trigger.

Yesterday, after running the gambit of small-time hustling
to get some money for food (hot dogs), he meets up with Brian on the Philadelphia
pier where he lives. Alec finds his friend fresh off an ass beating that he received
from his fixer for skimming off the top. So to make things right, Brian tells
Alec that they have to kill a local politician by the name of Callahan. Alec is
against the idea but Brian tells him that he’s backed into a corner and he has
no choice. As a further guilt trip to
Alec, Brian reminds him that he has shot a man before. Reluctantly, Alec agrees
to help his friend out.

Moon Knight #1 – Review

This is probably one of the most disappointing first issues I’ve ever read. If there’s two creators you don’t expect to “phone” it in, it’s Bendis and Maleev when they’re working together. Nothing about this book is interesting and frankly if you’ve read anything that had Moon Knight appear in it in the last several months you’ll be left scratching you’re head on how this fits in with anything in the Marvel U.
