Witchblade #139 – Advanced Review

For fans of the new Artifacts series, this issue is a nice tie-in. The story is touching, but if you are more into the violence and carnage caused by the Witchblade, you will not be seeing it here.

Sara, a.k.a. the Witchblade is still dealing with her sister Julie’s death, which occurred during the first issue of Artifacts. She is forced to see a psychiatrist who must decide if she’s fit enough to return to duty. No matter what her decision, Sara knows one thing for sure: she will find the murderer (Aphrodite IV) and end her.

Bruce Wayne – Road Home: Catwoman #1

Road Home one-shots have been disappointing. The art is not that great and the story often fails to move forward. Catwoman fails to move the story forward more than a step or two and the art is by no means spectacular. It is better than the usual Batman one-shot however.

Catwoman has been assigned to follow Vicki Vale to Club V, a traveling auction composed of criminals. Vale is continuing on her journey while Catwoman finally meets the Insider – will sparks fly? Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy also make an appearance, making the comic feel similar to an issue of Gotham City Sirens. Good news for fans of the serious sometimes promising issues.

Abattoir #1 Review – Radical Comics

A few choice words come to mind upon finishing Abattoir #1 (Radical Comic’s newest horror title): Creepy, Gruesome and Damn Good! Horror comics in general tend to fail out capturing the creepiness of their movie counterpart. There’s never any fear for the reader since they have total control over the story with each page turn. Abattoir may not instill fear into the reader, but it will leave them with an uneasy feeling they won’t be able to shake.

Fresh from the events of time and Grant Morrison’s epic story of Return of Bruce Wayne, comes the events of Road Home! Through Bruce’s dangerous jump through time he has finally made his way back to the city that he has called home, Gotham. Operating under the guise of, Insider, Bruce Wayne is taking notes on different members of his family (mainly his partners and friends) and finding out who is best to help him on his war against crime. Juggernaut One-Shot – Review

It’s a train! It’s a tank! No, it’s Juggernaut! One of Marvel’s best known villains demolishes his way through his own one-shot. Juggernaut being one of my favourite villains, upon discovering he had a one-shot, the opportunity was too much to pass up.

This issue begins in a bar in New Mexico. We are introduced to the owner talking with who appear to be regulars of his and they are talking about having to make a stand against a guy who comes in for fights. In bursts in the large man, with everyone terrified, except for a man in crimson armor. After Juggernaut knocks him out with one hit, he has sparked the interest of a woman whom wants his protection. This leads to him meeting up with Black Tom Cassidy, the woman being the succubus Spite and having to fight her brother D’Spayre.

Bruce Wayne – Road Home: Outsiders #1 Review

This is probably the shoddiest stone paving the road of Bruce Wayne – The Road Home. It does not further the story and the art is nothing special. It is a rather mediocre tale that is a bit of a let down from previous Batman one-shots, not that they were fantastic to begin with. It is sad this story turned out so poorly since it was so well foreshadowed in Bruce Wayne – Road Home: Red Robin #1 (such ‘creative’ names, by the way).

Batman and Robin #15 Review

Grant Morrison has been both a friend and a mortal enemy to fans of the Batman. One thing is the same, however: Batman and Robin is one of the greatest ongoing series at the moment. Possibly the best. With an in-depth story and stunning art, this issue fails to disappoint.

The “Batman and Robin Must Die” story arc comes to a conclusion in this bizarre story, directly linking it with the “Return of Bruce Wayne.” Professor Pyg and Dr. Hurt are together on a road full of rampage and it’s up to the Batman to stop them… with a little help from the Joker and a kidnapped Damian Wayne.

Justice League of America #60 – Review

Christmas is a huge thing. Streets and houses are lit up and people even travel around towns to see all the different displays. Christmas is so big that its influence can also be found in movies, special episodes for TV series, and the holiday event has even crept its way into comic books. Seeing the cover (Santa being beaten up by Neron) was the sole reason I picked up this comic.

Neonomicon #2 – Review

Within this issue, Alan Moore sparks controversy with some of the content in the latter part of the comic. The comic includes nudity, sexual activity and acts of sexual violence. Whilst controversy can attract lots of readers just to see what the dilemma is, it does not always mean it is for the better. I’ll explain that later on.

The series continues to follow agents Gordon and Merril, now with a lead connecting a series of crimes. Merril works out that they are all somehow influenced by the writings of H.P. Lovecraft; in turn this leads them to a sex shop that is purely for H.P. Lovecraft fanatics. Going undercover they wish to check it out and discover the owners and regular customers are part of a sex cult. Things from there make a turn for the worst.
