Cyclops #2 – Review

Even though this book is heavily laced with political and social commentary, it’s just very refreshing in the world of comics. The book is labeled for mature audiences and if it were up to me it wouldn’t be because of the violence, but rather the need for maturity when reading the story.

Doug and his team are set down in the middle of an ambush for their first televised mission. The face heavy fire and end up trapped behind a wall, pinned down by three snipers and a handful of ground troops. Anderson (Doug’s babysitter) takes four men and tries to charge the field, which gets him and his men shot. In a moment of bravery Doug rushes out to grab his “friend” and bring him back to safety. This is the moment that the world makes Doug… a hero!

Batman Beyond #1 Review

After a pretty successful mini-series that had the fans of the futuristic Neo-Gotham asking for more, the first issue of the new on-going series Batman Beyond is a bit of a disappointment. If you’re reading some of DC’s other Batman titles you may want to stick with those, though the series could show signs of improvement; if they fire the artist and start focusing more on Batman.

The Death of Comic Book Guy – Series Review

Straight out I honestly believe that many comic book fans upon hearing of this mini-series would have leapt at the opportunity of getting their hands on it, I know that’s what I did! Just seeing the cover of the first issue (a parody of the first issue of Fantastic Four) made me smile.

The series starts with Comic Book Guy posting on his blog his reenactment of many famous death scenes from movies and comics. Comic Book Guy then stumbles across an ad for a new Lard Lad mascot and he goes for the tryouts. He is defeated by a man going by the title Graphic Novel Kid, but the car he’s in blows up. At a movie memorabilia auction, there is an accident and Comic Book Guy is also blown up! Two deaths in one issue, crazy!

I thought that this series could not get any worse… it did! This series has been a complete disappointment and I don’t really see where it’s going.

Earp Saints For Sinners # 1 – Review

The economy of America has pretty much fallen to the floor, and echoes similarities to The Great Depression. With law enforcement as corrupt as the criminals they have sworn to protect, there is but one man left to look towards for hope, Wyatt Earp.

This is the backdrop for Radical’s latest series “Saints for Sinners” ( a futuristic re-imagining of the western legend Wyatt Earp) . Created by Matt Cirulnick and David Manpearl. Written by M. Zachary Sherman (Shrapnel Aristeia Rising), color done by Kyushik Shin (worked as art director for Activision and Sony Online Entertainment) and illustrated by Mack Chater, Martin Montiel (The Darkness) and Colin Lorimer, an action comic filled with back-tracking that reads like a movie.
