Hack/Slash #2 – Advanced Review

I’ve never actually read a Hack/Slash comic before this one that I am reviewing. After avidly researching as much as I could and reading blurbs on the back of trades, I found out this is basically about a psychopath who kills other psychopaths, to put it bluntly. I thought that was pretty cool and on top of that on the inside of the cover it reads, “…a must-read for fans of horror, quirky characters or just plain hot chicks killin’ stuff. Luckily, there’s never been a better time to jump on board than right now” by IGN. I just thought “sweet.” Cassie and her little team hunt down people known as slashers, which is typically what you would find in a slasher movie (really?). What is revealed at the beginning of this issue is that a slasher known as Acid Angel has come back after being killed, only to have learned that this is her second time being revived. Slashers always come back, right? Anyway, there is a conflict with both Cassie and her monstrous partner Vlad. At the same time a girl known as Cat Curio is in a forest that is filled with zombie animals. A man with a pumpkin face grabs her but Cat stabs him in the eye with a knife.

Jennifer Blood #2 – Review

It’s a Tuesday, the kids are in school and Jennifer’s back to “work” by spending the day down at the pier attached to the local yacht club. At the pier, Jennifer gets things started off by doing a little marine recon. In a few moments she has analyzed her target, Steve, a head member of a local crime family. He resides in his yacht just off the coast. Accompanying Steve on his yacht, are a handful of lightly armed men for security. Content with her intel Jennifer ponders the right type of firearms that will complement the job. Enjoy Jen’s thoughts as the 9mm debate continues. Once at home Jen and the family welcome home Allen after a hard day at work; who is just in time to meet the new neighbors, Jack and Laura. Jen does her best small talk while sizing up the new couple. By the look of things Jack could be a problem. After the family dinner and some extra “comatose coca” for the family, Jen puts the family to bed and heads off to work.

Bomb Queen vs Hack/Slash # 1 – Advanced Review

Bomb Queen versus Hack/Slash is a one shot, crossover issue with all girl action. The story starts with the characters of Hack/Slash already transported into New Port City. A chaotic desolated city ruled by a demon cat. The reasons these characters are here, is because their job is to kill all serial killers and all kinds of psychos. Thanks to the help of their strange, demon dog named Pooch, Cassie and Vlad are able to locate New Port city and the demon cat Ashe. Ashe tells them that serial killers are moving from his world to the Hack/Slash world because they want too. At that point Bomb Queen appears and tries to mess things up. Bomb Queen is after Ashe because she wants a power transfer that she can only get once Ashe is dead. Both of the protagonist of the crossover bicker and fight among each other, this serves as a distraction while Pooch manages to kill Ashe. The group from hack/Slash them traveled back to their world but not before Bomb Queen has a lesbian moment with Cassie.

Artifacts #6 – Advanced Review

Finally, after five issues of setting up the story, introducing characters, emotional distress and introducing even more characters, this issue of Artifacts is jam-packed with action from start to finish. This leaves little room for the story to advance very much, but it makes enough leaps that it has kept me satisfied. In the last issue of Artifacts Sara and her allies were confronted and attacked by Cyberforce. The team had been tricked by Aphrodite IV into believing Sara and the others were going to use the thirteen artifacts to destroy the universe. Just as the confrontation was about to begin with Sara beating Aphrodite to death to find information about her daughter, the fifth issue ended leaving a lot to be desired.

Insurrection v3.6 #1 – Review

On the planet Sparta in the year 3000 C.E. (Common Era) war still wages. The reason for the war is what the planet holds. Geo-Economic blocks wage war for the massive resource deposits of silicates and ores. Both are used to keep Earth the utopia it has become. The GLOMRAT and RETSU are the two corporations battling for control of Sparta’s resources. Glomrat has a slight advantage in the fact that their soldiers are machines made to look like humans called AUT’s. In a routine skirmish the AUT Team Leader Tolem is killed. To replace Tolem the boys at the AUT factory back on Earth build a new model called T.L. Model 3.6-195 or Tim. Tim is unlike any other AUT from the get go, unlike other other AUT’s the first thing he did upon “waking up” was ask what his name was, not his bar code.

Cabra Cini – Digital Visions #4 Review

Cabra Cini comes from a very troubled past. At one point in her life an abusive boyfriend turned her into a prostitute and became her pimp. Not long into that lifestyle she took up crack, more than likely to make herself stop feeling the miserable life she had found herself in. Then one day she couldn’t take it anymore and got out of that lifestyle and habit. She traded crack for Voodoo and started learning everything she could about her new addiction. The voodoo lead to a new lifestyle choice as she became a voodoo hitwoman; on this day in particular she’s looking for a target that killed a young girl when he tried to drink her blood. The dumb girl idolized the vampire wanna-be idiot and allowed him to foolishly kill her. The girl’s parents were a little less sympathetic about the stupidity of the girl’s death and began tearing about her room looking for clues to why this had happened. What they find is the contact information for the Voodoo Lady… Cabra Cini.

Elephantmen #30 – Advanced Review

Our story begins with Hip and Miki running into each other out in the rain. Miki is dressed very sexy with a clear rain coat on to reveal her glamorous figure. We then cut to Mr. Apostrophe standing before a board room telling the members before him of the dangers of the Elephantmen and that the awakened sleeper cell is just one of their concerns. Our third story running through the issue stars Panya and Joe (the Camel). Panya is reflecting on the day’s events as she stares down at the city from Ivory Towers. Joe informs her that the club has a full house and that she’s expected to dance. Panya thinks of the night before in which she played the body double for Sahara and became worried that Horn would discover her. After her “encounter” with Horn, Panya no longer sees him as anything other than a man and suddenly her world is turned upside down. Joe in the meantime thinks of his business and how hard it has been for him to maintain it over the years. He wonders if it really needs to be this difficult.
