The Li’l Depressed Boy #4 Review

While the previous issues of The Li’l Depressed Boy had wit and charm, this issue brings not only that but an emotional ending that makes me want to cry for LDB and thank Sina Grace for finally giving his true talent over to this issue art wise. This time LDB has to help the girl of his dreams clean her apartment after her birthday party was interrupted by the cops. Later when LDB shows up to her apartment again her roommate Jet tags along for a quick bite to eat and later a battle of epic proportions: laser tag.

Drums #1 – Advanced Review

This
story is a lie. Well most stories are anyway, but the creators of this
book are making sure you know this. Why? The subject matter of Drums
is so complex that to explain everything as it is would take an
encyclopedia to explain one of the three religions that the title
presents. But they accept this fact and say, “Hey bare with us, this is
not an accurate representation of real facts but a layman’s way to tell
an entertaining story based on all of these religions.” You see
Santeria, Palo Mayombe and Candomble are all derived from the Yoruba
tradition and all of them are very real religions. But the mainstream
tends to confuse them with voodoo or satanism. Drums is a title that takes the source material seriously. Here they represent this with care, with detailed and fictional liberties.

Courtney Crumrin Tales 2 – League of Ordinary Gentlemen – Review

The story of the Gentlemen Warlock continues in the second volume of Courtney Crumrin Tales and although reading the first volume enhances the story, you’ll find that it’s not required to enjoy the second volume. The tale begins with Alice and Aloysius pretending to be engaged while at Lady Emma’s latest party. They’re there on a Society visit and it’s soon revealed that Emma is actually sucking the life/beauty out of young women by bathing in their blood. Emma makes quick work of Lady Emma, who turns out to be Aloysius’ aunt, but the two allow Fred to take credit for the Society.

Soldier Zero #8 – Review

The last issue of Soldier Zero is a hard act to follow, but #8 does a good job of keeping up the action and building Stewart as a main character while also dumping a few members of his supporting cast. Stewart has an earth shattering secret revealed to him by the suits former host in the last issue and now he must fight to maintain control of the suit or lose himself to it forever. That and he must find a way to escape the government holding facility.

Age of X: Chapters 5 & 6 and Aftermath – Review

It’s been a few weeks since this cross-over finished so I thought we’d take a final look at Age of X and what it did for the X-Men franchise as a whole. Chapter 5 is the big reveal, but not the big finisher. We learn that not only is it Legion behind everything it’s actually a part of his mind that’s eaten the rest of his psyche and taken the shape of the deceased Moira. Xavier is freed and he begins the big reveal by reaching out to every ones minds. This comes in time for the morning attack which divides the mutants as they want to know what’s really going on.

Pink Power 1 & 2 – Review

Pink Power was another series that I picked up at Long Beach Comic Expo several weeks back and finally got a chance to talk about it. The book is very interesting and I loved the concepts behind everything they did even though there were way too many characters introduced in the first issue alone. The story begins with the super-hero Pink Princess on the way to the mega super store Best Mart which is basically a hybrid of Best Buy and Walmart. She finds some pink underwear lying about the store (we all know that to be true of Walmart) and decides to try them on… funny and gross. The underwear turn out to be cosmic underwear that give her even more power to her already massive power set.

Undying Love #2 – Review

This issue of Undying Love may not have the artistic prowess of the previous issue, but there is more meaningful action, more character development and more disappointment. John Sargent is in love with the vampire Mei and sets out to kill her maker Sang-Ji to turn Mei back into a human. He sets out first in this issue for Club G-Boss, a vampire hangout and gets bitten by one of the vampires. Now he may become a creature of the night himself.

Moriarty: The Dark Chamber #1 – Review

London town has always been the perfect setting for a good detective story and this spin-off from Sherlock Holmes into the world of his arch-nemesis Moriarty is an interesting one that leaves something to be desired, but still makes me want to continue reading. It is the early eighteenth century in London and Sherlock Holmes’ archenemy Moriarty has lost his motivation to rule the underworld after Holmes’ death. His fall from power has given rise to another dark organization The Black Hand, which has recently killed Arch Duke Ferdinand.  Moriarty’s services as a detective are soon requested and he is brought back into the action when the English Secret Service asks him to find Sherlock Holmes’ brother.
