Malignant Man #3 – Review

Malignant Man has a great plot filled with interesting (though
far from unique) ideas that really stand out when compared to other comics, with
likeable characters, solid
writing, and with only a few characters that need some work. This issue is great, but not outstanding,
mostly thanks to the artwork.
After finding out he has cancer, Alan Gates finds out
something even more shocking – not only is he not dying but he has a Malignant
in his brain capable of causing absolute havoc. With the help of his friend Sarah, who has a Malignant of her
own, Alan sneaks into Area 51 while the military is under heavy fire by Mr.
Cancer’s men.

The Cape: Legacy Edition #1 – Review

Let’s clear the air on something right away. This book has nothing to do with the Cape TV show that was cancelled by NBC. Perhaps if NBC had made this comic into a show then they wouldn’t have cancelled it. Because of all that I think this was a much overlooked issue from IDW and creator Joe Hill, which is unfortunate because it’s probably one of the best comics I’ve read in my entire life. If you’ve ever tired reading comics or even thought about it, then pick this issue up. If it doesn’t make a comic reader out of you, then nothing will!

Who do you go to when your current security isn’t up to par? Say for instance they’re all killed by a sniper and you are shot in the shoulder. That’s the initial set up to the second volume of Executive Assistant Iris which begins Aspen’s cross over event The Hit List Agenda. The volume features Iris and several new characters in her universe.

28 Days Later #24 – Review

28 Days Later # 24 hits the streets this week. Boy it sure would be great if the series ends with issue 28. You know… Like the title?  What? The series ends with issue 24? Oh man just when things were getting interesting. Maybe they do 28 Weeks Later or 28 Month Later as a sequel. But what am I talking about? I’m going to miss this series and if they do a sequel to this series they better bring this creative team back for more.

Rocketeer Adventures #2 – Review

We’re back with another set of short stories starring the Rocketeer and again it’s all top tier talent working on the book. Names like Mark Waid, Chris Weston, Darwyn Cooke, Lowell Francis and Gene Ha to name but a few. There is only one pin up by Geof Darrow and Dave Stewart, but the Alex Ross cover for issue three acts as a pretty good substitute. It depicts the Rocketeer standing with Beatty beside him, and she is a striking resemblance to Beatty Page the original inspiration for the character.

Darkwing Duck #13 – Review

Thirteen issues of Darkwing already? It seems just like
yesterday when I was excited about the terror that flaps in the night’s return
to comics
. One thing is for sure, the momentum that this book has is showing no
signs of slowing down. This all-ages title now under the Kaboom banner is fun,
full of heart and captures everything that was good about the cartoon.

Conan: The Island of No Return – Review

Conan: The Island of No Return is a new mini series from Dark Horse Comics. Written by Ron Marz and drawn by Bart Sears. If you are looking for an alternative to the big events or just wish to read something without too much continuity and parallel worlds, then get your hands on this series. This mini offers: action, adventure, swords, sorcery, scantily clothed people and fun double entendres.

Deadlands: The Devil’s Six Gun – Review

Get
this! You are browsing in your local comic shop, and it just happens
that your weekly quota of comics felt a little short this week. Tired of
the same superhero crap out there and your wallet doesn’t have enough
green to buy every comic from that big event involving a Scarlet
Speedster? How about a one-shot? Well, this week Image Comics could hold
the answer to your needs with Deadlands: The Devil’s Six Gun.

Godzilla: Gangsters & Goliaths #1 – Review

When I first heard about this book at Wonder Con, I have to admit I thought it was stupid. The idea and title are still stupid, but you can’t judge a book by its cover. So I didn’t. Gangsters & Goliaths is not only a great Godzilla story, but it also manages to be a good human story. Everyone knows that humans are just added to the monster genre so that the viewer will have someone to relate to as the monsters destroy everything. They’re rarely interesting and usually it’s the same thing over and over again, except for Godzilla: Final Wars.

Soldier Zero #9 – Review

This issue is seriously the best issue thus
far. It feels different than the rest of the series and looks better with the
addition of Roman Bachs on art. The Stan Lee books have been really good and even some
of them great, but all of them have struggled to find their footing and get
some level of consistency. Soldier Zero is no longer looking for that as they
have definitely found the perfect balance for the story. If you wrote this book
off as Indie then this issue has moved it into the big leagues of comics.
