I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m damn excited about Planet of the Apes coming to comics. Mostly because I’m a big Rod Sterrling fan and love the first movie because of it. Wow! It seems like Image is on fire with their creator own books. This is amazing to hear. I am very happy that Image is having some awesome success with their books. The Family Guy comic series will follow the Griffin family in a string of brand new outrageous storylines, along with fellow Quahog residents Cleveland Brown, Joe Swanson and everyone’s favorite ladies man, Glen “giggity” Quagmire. Family Guy has become one of America’s favorite animated TV shows of all time, and was named one of TV Guide’s “25 Top Cult Shows Ever!”. The show boasts over 27 million fans on Facebook, and has been nominated for 13 Emmy® Awards including Outstanding Comedy Series. Artwork for the Family Guy comic series is provided by comic artists SL Gallant (G.I. Joe, Torchwood) and Anthony Williams (Judge Dredd, Superman, Batman). Family Guy comic #1 will be on sale and available on US newsstands and in specialty comic book stores beginning on July 27, 2011.
Sometimes a few books come out that share a similar theme, we’re all familar with this concept from the movies (Deep Impact and Aremagedon and my personal favorite occurance). But with comic books its more interesting than sharing a common theme since the art and storytelling can be so very different between books. Today we have a preview of Aspen’s Charismagic that releases this week. The theme is the return of magic which is one we’ve covered with books like Lucid and Magus, but Charismagic takes a very different approach.
