No More Heroes Gains Pirate Popularity

No More Heroes is a small, not-well known or well publicized project written by Gordon Mclean and drawn by Gaio Oliveira. The series was a first attempt for Mclean, who sold his Playstation games collection to hire an artist and make his dream to create a comic come to life. The comic is ranked among Batman and The Walking Dead. Unfortunately, this is not on sales charts, but the pirate downloads.

No More Heroes was downloaded on Demonoid (just one specific Pirate community) 1600 times alone. But Gordon Mclean is taking this in stride, writing…

First Look: The Darkness #100 and Other Creative Changes

Back on February 29th, 2012, the 100th anniversary issue of The Darkness was released. The oversize hundredth issue came out shortly after the release of the Darkness II video game, which like it’s previous game, has gotten a slew of awe-inspired reviews wailing it’s praises. The hundredth issue concludes Phil Hester’s run on Darkness, leading to similar creative changes like those after Witchblade #150.

The ongoing writer, Phil Hester (Wonder Woman, Green Hornet), ends his run on The Darkness with a trio of artists: Romano Molenarr (The Darkness II: Confession), Leandro Oliveira (Superman) and Jose Luis (Pilot Season: Seraph). The covers for Darkness #100 are done by Todd McFarlane (Spawn) and Michawl Golden (Spawn), Jeremy Haun (Artifacts, Detective Comics) and Michael Broussard (Artifacts). Hester’s exit makes way for new ongoing writer David Hine (The Darkness: Four Horsemen, Bulletproof Coffin) and Darkness #100 cover artist Jeremy Haun to take over in the next issue of The Darkness (find more details about that particular issue here).

You must have the scanner app on your phone to allow this to work. After you get the app you scan the bar code. Than you hover your phone over where to the cover tells you to. Than you can enjoy the first ever talking comic book.

Being Super in Earth 2

DC has capped off the week with previews of Superman and Supergirl for their May relaunch of Earth 2 in the form of two ongoing series. Worlds’ Finest will star Power Girl, formerly the Supergirl depicted here, along with Huntress while Earth 2 with feature a different take on the DC Trinity along with other characters from a world that seems to get a little darker with every reveal.

I’ve got to say — DC really started with their best foot forward this week on the Earth 2 previews, because they sure didn’t save the best for last here.

First Look: Witchblade #151

Ron Marz ended his 70-issue run on Witchblade in December, with Witchblade #150. Witchblade #151 hit the shelves on January 4th, 2012, and is being handled by a new team: writer Tim Seeley, renowned for Hack/Slash, and artist Diego Bernard, the artistic penciler of The Man With No Name.

This issue of Witchblade is panned as a great “jumping on” point, and I was very happy to hear it would be continuing despite Ron Marz leaving the series after issue 150, considered it seemed to be the “End of an Era” for Witchblade – and a symbolic “final issue.” Writer Tim Seeley worries me… I love Hack/Slash, but the stories are usually much less involved and have more blood and guts than the usual Witchblade comics. Hopefully, the action feel rather than pure terror Seeley usually enraptures his readers with in Hack/Slash will pervade his run on Witchblade, a much more fantasy-based series than a bloody horror-hound series.

The Robin and Wonder Woman of Earth 2

DC continues its week of Earth 2 previews with glimpses of that world’s Robin, currently known as Huntress and future co-star of Worlds’ Finest and Wonder Woman, set to star in the ongoing Earth 2 series beginning in May.

Details revealed about these two characters paint a better picture of the new Earth 2, revealing it to be a darker place than most were probably expecting. Is this going to be a trend with the rest of Earth 2’s cast? Is Earth 2 not only a world where familiar heroes are older but a world where they have also lived notably tougher lives?

A Preview of Earth 2’s Batman

Promoting its upcoming Earth 2 series in May, DC has provided everyone with a look at the character design for the Batman of that world along with some comments from editor Pat McCallum that should give fans plenty to speculate over. More Earh 2 designs are promised to come throughout the week.

One thing that is made clear is this is not the same Earth 2 that DC fans are familiar with. Perhaps even moreso than the main Earth, Earth 2 looks to have been heavily reimagined. We will see for sure in May when Earth 2 releases courtesy of writer James Robinson and artist Nicola Scott.

San Diego Comic Con is one of the most known pop culture events in the world. For one weekend it brings fans and stars to enjoy pop culture like comic books, television shows, and movies. Comic Con Four: A Fan’s Hope brings fans behind the scenes of San Diego Comic Con. Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) will be working with Joss Wheden,  (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Avengers) Harry Knowles (AintItCool.com), and Stan Lee (Spider-man, X-men, Fantastic Four) to make this documentary. Personally I could not think of better people to make this documentary.
