Archaia Press – Shipping 9/1/2010

Another week of comic releases is upon us and with it is another batch of previews! This week Archaia Press releases the second issue of Critical Millennium. You can find the review for the first issue here to refresh your memory. Also released this week is the hardcover of Fraggle Rock volume 1. If you’re interested in what we thought about the single issues you can find a review for the first issue here and the third issue here. The last title released this week is the Starkweather: Immortal another collected hardcover. Let’s jump right into it!

Preview Time – Angelus #5

Top Cow’s released yet another preview, this time for Angelus #5 which will be out this week. Just as Dani and Finch’s relationship reaches a turning point, Dani must embrace the role of the Angelus once again, finally facing down an enemy who has lurked in the shadows and plotted her doom. Forced to make a choice between her humanity and her life as the Angelus, what will Dani choose?

Top Cow – Magdalena #3 Preview

It’s preview time! So far this week we’ve had previews from Radical Comics, two from Archaia Press, Boom! Studios and now Top Cow. We’ve been following Magdalena since issue one and so there should be no surprise that we’re interested in issue three which comes out next week. What’s really interesting is that there’s a Magdalena movie in the works! At any rate, if you’ve been interested in this new ongoing series from Top Cow here’s your chance to check it out.

Let’s Get Dangerous… Again! – Darkwing #2 Sells Out

BOOM Kids! is proud to announce that Darkwing Duck #2 has sold out, sending everyone’s favorite masked mallard into 2nd printing. This follows on the heels of the announcement that Darkwing Duck #1 sold out and went to reprint earlier this month.

BOOM!’s latest smash hit has received tremendous fan support with sales of Darkwing Duck #3 surpassing the sales of issue #1.

The in-store date for Darkwing Duck #1 2nd print is September 1st with Darkwing Duck #2 2nd print hitting store shelves on September 15th. Darkwing Duck #4 is scheduled to ship on September 22nd.

Archaia Press – Legend of the Guard #3 Preview

Here at Player Affinity Comics we love us some Mouse Guard. That’s not to say that any of us can top Neil and his love of all furry animals doing human-esc things, but we enjoy Mouse Guard too! Next week Archaia Press is releasing the third issue of Legend of the Guard. This has been the first series not entirely written and drawn by creator David Peterson. The series has been an assortment of tales (both tall and short) set in the world of the Mouse Guard. Even if you missed the first two issues you can still pick up the third and enjoy it as they are self contained stories. Granted there is a unifying element between all the tales, but you can read Neil’s reviews for the first and the second issue to get caught up. For more information stop by Archaia Press’ site.

Radical Comics – Shipping 9/1/10

We’ve been featuring a lot of future releases lately, but what about next week? Heck, what about this week? Well you’ll just have to keep looking for this week, but for right now let’s spotlight two releases for next week from Radical Comics. The first is the conclusion of a series entitled The Last Days of American Crime. You can expect a review of the third issue, but also a review of the entire series since it’s one that I personally have a lot to talk about. The next issue is entitled Mata Hari and it’s a premiere issue. Radical books tend to have a higher page count than most comics and so to give readers a taste of the completed product they put out premiere issues for $1.00 to entice readers to try the series out. Expect some coverage on this title as well.

Top Cow – Shipping in Nov

The November releases keep coming in! This time we’re coming at you with Top Cow Comics releases. Top Cow is the home of such comics as the Darkness, Witchblade, Artifacts (The big Top Cow event going on right now), Velocity and several others that you can find the reviews for on our site. Top Cow is always great about producing mini-series and one-shots to help introduce new readers to their characters. So what do they have “shipping” in November?

27 – Burning Out and Fading Away

Hendrix, Cobain, Joplin, Morrison. All died at age 27. In 27, and all-new miniseries from Image Comics and Shadowline, a gifted rock musician fights to make it to his 28th birthday.

This four-issue series is written by Charles Soule (Strongman), drawn by the brilliant Renzo Podesta (Hard Drive, Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom), and features gorgeous covers by W. Scott Forbes (FORGETLESS). It will be published in the larger Golden Age format.

Image Comics Expands the Digital Market

Image Comics enters the digital market today with the launch of the Image Comics app for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. The app, developed on the leading digital comic book platform by comiXology, allows fans unprecedented digital access to the creator-owned comics that Image proudly publishes.

The partnership between Image and comiXology offers Image creators a direct line to digital distribution. Among the independent content now available digitally are Image’s most popular titles, including SAVAGE DRAGON, CHEW, BATTLE POPE and Rob Liefeld’s YOUNGBLOOD. The Image Comics app will also be the first to feature work from Todd McFarlane with the inclusion of HAUNT, created in collaboration with Robert Kirkman (THE WALKING DEAD, INVINCIBLE).

Coming to us from Archaia Press is their November releases. You’ll see a lot of series’ that we’ve covered in the past and will continue to bring you coverage on as there released. Archaia has a strong variety of comics and most importantly they cover all age ranges as well. You’ll find family and kid friendly books like Fraggle Rock and Mouse Guard, then teen titles such as Lucid and Days Missing. That’s why makes Archaia such an interesting and fun publisher to follow; you’ll never know what they put out next, but you can bet it will be great.
