Image – Kaboomerang Variant

Guarding the Globe is Robert Kirkman’s version of the Avengers and the JLA all rolled into one. In fact the teams are so similar that the new mini-series is doing Avengers-esc variant covers. The problem being that the name Kaboomerang is far too ridiculous to be taken serious.

Image Comics is thrilled to announce and reveal the variant cover for the second issue of the hit miniseries GUARDING THE GLOBE!

Image – Walking Dead 80 Teases More

Yesterday Image released the teaser image shown below for Walking Dead #80. You may recall the first teaser that basically hinted at nothing and showed even less. Basically it gave us the title of the storyline that is starting with issue 80 and that is “No Way Out.” Admittedly, I’m not reading the Walking Dead and could really care less about this storyline. Hold on now, before you get the pitchforks let me explain that I have every issue of Walking Dead from 1 to 55 with the exception of the 2nd issue because it was just too expensive to allow myself to buy it. That’s right back in the day you actually had to track down single issue if you wanted to read the series and that’s just what I did. But at some point the Walking Dead stopped being interesting and or good. It’s influences were always obvious but then the originality the series had slowly started to leave. Now it’s just another comic title that people keep buying because they always have. Personally it’s no better than X-Men or Batman or any of the other titles that play it safe each month to make a sales quota. But enjoy this image depicting what could be the first original idea in the book for thirty some issues.

Morning Glories Goes to Third Print

You know what? I haven’t even read this damn thing yet and it’s already sold out again. Thanks a lot Image for printing enough copies! I looked up the first printing on EBay and the damn thing goes for at least $20 bucks. The worst part is that I’m pretty sure it was released the same week as Comic Con which was the reason I missed it. Damn you Comic Con, you taketh and giveth too much!

Image Comics is rushing to press a third printing of MORNING GLORIES #1, written by Nick Spencer and drawn by Joe Eisma with covers by Rodin Esquejo. The third printing of MORNING GLORIES #1 will be available the same day as issue #2, September 15.

Soldier Zero – Trailer

Some of you are scratching your head wondering how in the world a comic book can have a trailer? Well it’s actually nothing new and you can probably blame Mark Millar and Marvel Comics for the whole thing. Sure it’s a silly idea, but they are effective in communicating information about the product that you may have missed in our preview of the first issue or the several announcements about Stan Lee’s collaboration with Boom! Studios. One thing is for sure, the more they talk about this book the more I want to read it. Not just because it’s from the mind of Stan Lee. In fact it’s mostly because Paul Cornell is writing it and he’s increasingly become the writer to watch in comics. So sit back and enjoy 57 seconds of Soldier Zero!

Avatar Press – Nov Releases

Avatar Press proudly announces the upcoming release of GRAVEL VOLUME THREE: THE LAST KING OF ENGLAND, the latest graphic novel by long-time collaborative partners Warren Ellis and Mike Wolfer.  Solicited in the September 2010 edition of Previews, this latest chapter sees the violent, bloody conclusion to a story arc four years in the making.

Warren Ellis’ spell-casting soldier finally gets his due in GRAVEL VOL. 3: THE LAST KING OF ENGLAND!  Co-written by industry legend Warren Ellis (TransmetropolitanBlack Summer) and horror maven Mike Wolfer (Night of the Living DeadWolfskin), this third volume draws together the plot threads interwoven throughout the preceding volumes (VOL. 1: BLOODY LIARS and VOL. 2: THE MAJOR SEVEN), leading to a deadly conflict between Gravel’s ragtag team of working class mystics and Bible Jack, a psychotic rogue magician.  However, the madman raining down death on innocent Londoners isn’t Gravel’s only threat, as a more political enemy takes shape on Downing Street.  Collecting issues #15-21 of the monthly series, GRAVEL VOL. 3 perfectly captures all the grit and gruesomeness that inspired its upcoming feature film adaptation from Legendary Pictures!
