27 Sells Out… Or Does It?

Yesterday, Shadowline — An Image imprint — released the first issue of 27, a story about an up and coming musician that’s trying to make it to his 28th birthday. Frankly I forgot that it was released because I didn’t see it on the shelves of my comic book shop — DJ’s Universal Comic’s shout out. Then today I received a press release saying that the book had sold out at the distribution level which has been a growing trend with Image titles lately. Well it didn’t strike any chords with me until I read an article on Bleeding Cool about how the book was sold out 2-3 weeks before it hit the shelves and that it’s mostly due to a number of the books being damaged.

Shrapnel Now an iPhone Game

Radical Interactive launched its first mobile game for the Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Shrapnel is a non-stop action adventure game based on Radical Publishing’s award winning sci-fi comic book series created by Nick Sagan and Mark Long. 

Gamers take on the role of Vijaya “Sam” Narayan, a former military hero, who is fighting to save the galaxy from the Solar Alliance. Gamers navigate Sam and the Alliance across multiple planetary terrains, battling enemies, all while unlocking secret missions and compiling money to purchase weapons and upgrades. During game play, players also accrue points to stay atop of the leader board in hopes of winning cash prizes.

Image Explains Teasers – Not For the Faint of Heart

It’s been hard to miss the teaser campaign that Image Comics has been running throughout the month of November. Were the images from one book? Several new series? At long last, Image is coming clean about those dirty little teasers… In March 2011, Image is unleashing an all-new series written by showman Joe Casey (OFFICER DOWNE, GØDLAND) and drawn with dynamic intensity by Mike Huddleston (The Coffin). The name of this surreal homage to uber violence? BUTCHER BAKER, THE RIGHTEOUS MAKER.

Mindless Second Printing

Electro-punk band Mindless Self Indulgence has been acclaimed by music aficionados the world over. They’ve headlined music festivals and played with world-renowned bands such as Korn, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Rammstein and System Of A Down. Now, Mindless Self Indulgence can add another item to their already impressive list of accomplishments: creators of a sold out comic book!

ADVENTURES INTO MINDLESS SELF INDULGENCE, a one-shot illustrated by Jess Fink (POPGUN, Chester 5000), has sold out at the distribution level, so Image Comics is ordering a second printing of the hit comic. The book, which will feature a new cover by Fink, will be in stores December 22.

Voting Tidal Wave Crashes Pilot Season Poll

Readers want to be heard!  Over the weekend, the Top Cow Pilot Season 2010 poll saw a surge in votes causing the service provider to shut down the poll days ahead of its close.  As a result, the publisher is extending the deadline to vote and the period to read all Pilot Season 2010 titles for free digitally to Monday, December 8 at Midnight PST.

“After reading this year’s line-up of Pilot Season contestants,” says Atom! Freeman, Top Cow’s Director of Sales and Marketing.  “Who’s surprised that they broke the Internet?”

Image Reveals Butcher Baker: The Righteous Maker

After nearly three weeks of teasers (most of which we didn’t post) Image has finally revealed their mystery comic titled: Butcher Baker The Righteous Maker! The series is being written by Joe Casey and drawn by Mike Huddleston. The name is funny (due to the false rhyme), but after three weeks of either goofy or gratuitous sex scenes I’m not really sure who this book is for. I have nothing against adult content and frankly it’s practically expected from Image, but the random scenes taken completely out of context have really diminished my interest in the series. The cover is still considered a teaser as well so who knows if we’re to expect four more teasers this week, but as it stands I’ve had my fill!

Legendary Pictures Comes To Comics

Box-office hit production company Legendary Pictures (which produced such titles as The Dark Knight, 300 and Watchmen) is about to try their hand at comic book production! They will begin marketing graphic novels in 2011 and become Legendary Comics. But will the comics be stuff made of legends, or is this just another company looking to make another quick buck?

To show they mean business, the company will also be adding a “legendary” (too cheesy?) veteran editor as their new editor-in-chief, Bob Shreck, who has previously been the editor for DC, IDW, Dark Horse and Oni Press.
