Dynamite Scores Voltron

A press release from Classic Media and World Event Productions
indicates that Dynamic Forces, the parent company of Dynamite
Entertainment, has acquired the rights to publish new comic books and
graphic novels based on the classic Voltron property. Last spring, news leaked out that Moonstone Books had been outbid in an attempt to secure the Voltron license, although Moonstone did publish a Voltron coffee table book.

Dynamite has not yet announced the acquisition of the property or the date of release for its Voltron comic. The most recent Voltron
comics were published by Devil’s Due, which acquired the license in
2002. Devil’s Due published a five-issue miniseries followed by an
11-issue ongoing Voltron series that ended in 2005. A second
5-issue miniseries from Devil’s Due debuted in 2008 and marked the end
of the modern era of Voltron comics.

directed last year’s Twilight film Eclipse and the vampire thriller 30 Days of Night.
The screenwriter attached to the film is David Scarpa, who scripted The Day The Earth Stood Still
for Fox. The new film has yet to be assigned a title and no word has
been released from the studio whether the original actors will reprise
their roles.

Well this time we win out for being quoted by Moonstone Books for Savage Beauty #1. You can also see what others are saying about the book on the quote sheet and then maybe you’ll get the point that we’re not blowing smoke on this book and you should pick it up. Moonstone Entertainment, Inc., Captain Action Enterprises, and Runemaster Studios, the forces behind Moonstone’s latest comic title SAVAGE BEAUTY, have been saying for months just how spectacular this new series would be.  An updating of the Jungle Girl genre tale, SAVAGE BEAUTY uses two very strong female leads to not only introduce pulp like heroics into the jungles of today’s world, but also tackles real life issues.   The comic is a tool of vital partnership between its creators and agencies and organizations dedicated to making life better and even saving lives in Kenya, Africa, and other ravaged lands.   Moonstone, CAE, and Runemaster have been shouting the praises of SAVAGE BEAUTY and rightfully so.

Comic Movie Night: Wigram Productions Gets Jeff Smith’s Rasl

Lionel Wigram, who famously hatched a graphic novel version of Sherlock Holmes before
setting that franchise up at Warner Bros., has tapped into another
comic for a feature film project. Wigram Productions has acquired rights
to RASL, a black-and-white science fiction noir comic book
series written and drawn by Jeff Smith. RASL is an ex-military
scientist-turned-art thief who jumps to parallel universes to steal
treasured pieces of art. During these trips, he gets discovered by his
former employer, and finds himself trying to protect the world’s most
dangerous secret. Smith, who launched the series in 2008, also writes Bone, a series that has received 10 Eisner and 11 Harvey Awards. Wigram, who just wrapped Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,
said he was tipped to the comic by colleague Peter Eskelsen and bought
it with his own cash. “We’ll team with a writer and figure out how to
adapt it to the screen and hopefully it will become a big movie
franchise for Warner Bros.,” he said. ICM brokered the deal. Wigram will
produce, and Eskelsen and Jeff Smith will be exec producers.
