Green Lantern Affinity – Hector Hammond

With a big head only a mother could love, Hector Hammond was a genius that used a meteorite to gain powers with some unsettling side effects, including making major trouble for Green Lantern. Hammond was created back in 1961 by John Broome and Gil Kane and first appeared in Green Lantern #5.

In his original origin story, Hector began as a common criminal until he found a meteorite and discovered it had caused some nearby plants to experience 100,000 years worth of evolution in moments. Intrigued, Hector brought the meteorite back to his hideout with him and kidnapped four scientists to use as test subjects. He used the meteorite to make the scientists evolve and create amazing inventions that Hector took credit for, making him into an instant celebrity. He also captured the eye of Carol Ferris, the Green Lantern’s love interest. This led to Hector’s first meeting with Green Lantern, who restored the four scientists to normal and captured Hector. Later Hector decided to use the meteorite on himself.

You Missed That Issue? Marvel Knights Captain America #3

Welcome to a new series spotlighting some of the best single issues in comics from the past decade. You will not find Watchmen, Sin City, Dark Phoenix Saga or Action Comics #775 anywhere on this list. These are comics that, with a little effort, you’ll find on the Internet or lost in the back issues of your comic book store. Because this article is not a review, and since these issues are not necessarily new, any surprise, cliffhanger or death will be spoiled in an attempt to show why the book shouldn’t have been missed.

Should Marvel Reboot?

There are two hot subjects this week, both from top Marvel competitor DC Comics. The first is that at the end of August DC will start releasing digital comics on the same day they release the printed version in comic shops across the country. That in and of itself is a debate, but the second major news is that DC will be re-launching its entire line of comics with 52 brand new first issues. News is already pouring out from every direction of the internet, but what I’m really waiting for is Marvel’s response. If it’s one thing Marvel isn’t good at… it’s letting DC have the spotlight or keeping its mouth shut.
