Talking ‘The Tattered Man, Booksmart, Trailblazer and the DC Relaunch’ with Jimmy Palmiotti

It is not every day that I get to sit down with a creator that will one day be known as a Comic Legend! But that’s what happened this weekend as I was able to send a ton of questions and follow questions to the one and only Jimmy Palmiotti one of the best inkers in comics, but also one half of the best writing teams in comics today as well. Jimmy has recently released a ton of creator owned and freelance work including: The Tattered Man, Time Bomb, Deathstroke and the Curse of the Ravager. So sit back, get a glass of water and read what’s possibly our best interview for the site ever.

Comic Book Theater Festival – Nerdlesque Review

Ever see an attractive cosplayer at a comic book convention and wish you could see them naked? Of course you have, which is why you’ll probably enjoy Nerdlesque, a monthly burlesque show with a rotating nerd theme.  This month they did a comic book motif as part of the Brick Theater’s Comic Book Theater Festival.  As both a theatre critic and a comic book reviewer, my journalistic integrityrequired me to experience Nerdlesque first hand and report back to the comic book community about the performance.

Green Lantern Affinity – Abin Sur

A lot of comic fans look at Abin Sur and write him off as the dead guy who gave Hal Jordon rather than Guy Gardner his ring, thus changing the Green Lantern Corps forever. But Abin Sur plays such an intricate role in shaping the entire Green Lantern universe; especially in the comics. Abin may have had to die in order to give Jordon his ring, but the events that led to his demise is one of the best stories ever told in the Green Lantern comics.

Comic Book Theater Festival – Gutterspace Review

You know that white space between the panels in a comic book?  It’s called the “Gutter”.  Have you ever wondered what superheroes do there while they’re waiting for the next panel to begin?  Well, a new play performing in the Comic Book Theater Festival in Brooklyn New York asks (And answers) this question.  Gutterspace is a super-powered existentialist comedy; sort of the Justice League equivalent of Waiting for Godot, or perhaps Batman meets Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead.

Hero Complex Film Fest – Richard Donner, Geoff Johns, Jim Lee and the DC Reboot

The Hero Complex is a film festival held at the Mann Chinese in Hollywood that showcases the Superhero genre in film. This was the second year it was being held and they had quite the guest list there to talk about their movies. Today’s films were Superman and Superman II: The Donner Cut and the special guest? None other than Richard Donner himself. There was a great Q&A with Donner and host Geoff Boucher, but he wasn’t the only special guest as Mike Mignola was also there (he created this year’s poster) and of course there was the announced DC Comics interview with Geoff Johns and Jim Lee.

DC Reboot – Who’s Really Calling The Shots?

I know, another article on the DC reboot? The damn thing won’t go away! I’m sure most people thought the way I did and that DC was going to stay tight lipped about the titles and creative teams, but that hasn’t been the case. DC is dropping details daily and what started off fun and exciting has become scary. So many details are coming out that it’s starting look like a group email to the creators letting them know that they got the book. Add the fact that there’s inside information that this reboot isn’t DC’s idea and suddenly this entire process seems nuts!

Green Lantern Affinity – Sinestro

Today Sinestro is better known as the creator and leader of the Sinestro Corp, the Yellow Lanterns that use fear as the source of their powers. In Blackest Night, Sinestro also became for a brief moment the first White Lantern. But that is what fans of Geoff Johns‘ run on Green Lartern might know. The true genesis of this character was born a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Sinestro was born on planet Korugar, what Green Lanterns called space sector 1417. He is the brother in law of Abin Sur (the green Lantern that died and gave Hal Jordan his ring) Sinestro became a Green Lantern before becoming a villain. In a similar way to Hal Jordan’s GL origin, on one ordinary day on the planet Korugar, a Green Lantern named Prohl Gosgotha crash-landed there fatally injured he gave his ring to Sinestro; just in time for Sinestro to defend himself from the Lantern’s attacker (a Weaponer of Qward). Sinestro defeats the Qwardian. Turns out that Gosgotha was still alive and asked Siniestro for his ring back. This could’ve help Gosgotha to stabilize his vitals long enough for him to get help, but knowing this would mean he’d have to give up being a Green Lantern Sinestro instead allowed him to die and took over sector 1417. The Guardians of Oa were of course unaware of his actions.
