Capcom Sueing Koei Tecmo for Patent Infringement
"980 million yen for patent infringement"
Capcom has reportedly sued Koei Tecmo for 980 million yen (roughly $9 million USD) for patent infringement on Tecmo's very popular franchise,
Dynasty Warriors as well as
Samurai Warriors.
The claim states that both games used "new content acquired through using a previous game and new software" as well as "a controller-vibrating feature when enemies are nearby" as the issue at hand. On top of the base 980 million yen, Capcom is also seeking around five to ten percent in license fees for the accusation. Koei Tecmo has denied the infringements laid against them and not much else can be said at this point in time.
The latest
Samurai Warriors game,
Samurai Warriors 4, released in Japan on PS3 and Vita last March; it is set to come out in North America and Europe later this fall with a Playstation 4.
The most recent
Dynasty Warriors, Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends, released this past spring for PS3, PS4 and Vita.
