In a revelation neither new nor shocking, Blizzard – although not officially
announcing – is very determined to bring Diablo 3 to console platforms.
It will be amazing if the game releases for PC this year. I predict an early 2012 release, however, perhaps between April and June. It's nice to know
that people who prefer gaming on a console will someday get a chance to
experience this undoubtedly amazing looking game from the biggest maker of PC
titles.
Joe Mosqueira, Blizzard's Diablo 3 lead designer, was quoted
saying at Gamescom 2011:
"Today, we're trying to build the best
console team at Blizzard. We're looking for programmers, designers, artists who
think their dream job would be to bring Diablo to the console. Trust me, it is
a dream job."
So it is safe to assume that not only will there be a Diablo 3 for consoles, but
other future Blizzard titles will be available as well. I certainly can't see StarCraft 2 coming to PS3 and 360, but MMOs and action titles in development at Blizzard would certainly be missing out by not getting released on
things besides the PC. Like other Blizzard fans, I hope we get to see StarCraft: Ghost again, but most likely not
until the next wave of consoles are on the market.
