Assassin's Creed Syndicate is the official name of the next upcoming Assassin's Creed game. The game was leaked via Kotaku a few months back and now we have official confirmation from Ubisoft that yes, the next Assassin's Creed game will be set in Victorian London and will include a grappling hook.
You can see the grappling hook in action and more in the gameplay video below. And while it looks a bit rough in places, I'm glad to see actual gameplay and not some CG trailer or Watch Dogs styled "Hope it looks like this" video. This is actual early gameplay, warts and popping in textures and all.
Now called Assassin's Creed Syndicate, the new game was revealed by Gamespot and Ubisoft. Assassin's Creed Syndicate is coming only to PS4, Xbox One and PC. You can read all the preview coverage of the new game at Gamespot, but here are some of the bits of information I found interesting.
You will be able to play as two characters, a brother and sister. Being able to play as a woman seems like a direct response to the complaints that many had last year. On top of a playable woman assassin, many grunts and enemies you fight are women as well. Glad to see the series getting more gender diverse.
There is no multiplayer or online co-op. Since the release of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood the series has always had some online component, so it is interesting to see Syndicate ditch that stuff.
Stealth is getting some big changes. Assassin's Creed Syndicate is moving the series into more environment based stealth. You can use throwing knives to cut ropes and drop objects, creating distractions. You'll be able to crouch and crawl to stay hidden. And the whistle from previous Assassin's Creed games is returning.
Assassin's Creed Unity had windows that were awful and hard to get into. Ubisoft admits that the windows were difficult to enter, so they are improving the windows in Assassin's Creed Syndicate and also improving the overall movement controls.
According to the Game Informer interview, Ubisoft is very aware of the issues that Unity had and are doing more playtesting then ever before. They are also focusing on single player only and all of the studios are working on this one game, not splitting groups up to work on a second game for the older consoles. Hopefully this amount of focus and testing will help keep Syndicate from being a buggy mess like Unity.
Also from the Game Informer interview: There will be a day and night cycle, a base of operations you will customize, brother and sister will have different skill trees and like Unity the modern story will be a small part of the game.
Assassin's Creed Syndicate is coming to PS4 and Xbox One on October 23rd and later this fall for PC. You can watch the reveal trailer by clicking here. You can click here to read our review of Assassin's Creed: Chronicles China which was recently released.
