Apocalypse Now – X-Men: Apocalypse Set for 2016
Bryan Singer announces his follow-up to next year's
X-Men: Days of Future Past entitled
X-Men: Apocalypse. This bit of news, first confirmed by
Entertainment Weekly, will no doubt have the heads of mutant lovers exploding from the level of awesomeness it promises.
There are many memorable story lines for future X-Men films to draw from, but it would seem that any including Apocalypse would be a good and logical next step to take. One of the most beloved super-villains, Apocalypse is the world's first known mutant as well as its oldest at over 5000 years old. He is essentially immortal and uses his many abilities, which include telekinesis, molecular manipulation, and telepathy, among a host of other powers, to further his goal of a world where mutants reign supreme.
One of the most well known story lines featuring the evil mutant, comes from
Age of Apocaplyse, in which he rules an alternate reality Earth. A film based on this story, which seems likely, would fit in very nicely after
Days of Future Past with its time travel premise.
It should be exciting to see where the new film series goes in the capable hands of Bryan Singer, who has remained tight-lipped with any details regarding the second sequel to
X-Men: First Class. The only concrete information available is the official release date of May 27, 2016. There is no word on whether the
First Class cast or the cast from the original trilogy will be involved. Are you excited yet?
