The American adaptation of the British drama Broadchurch just got two fantastic casting additions. Breaking Bad’s (Emmy-winner) Anna Gunn and (Oscar nominee) Jacki Weaver. The remake, which will air as an event series on FOX, is renamed Gracepoint and is set to premiere next season. Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall will write the pilot episode and will serve as executive producer for the adaptation and James Strong, who directed various episodes of the original series, is set to direct the pilot and consequent episodes of Gracepoint. David Tennant will also reprise his role as Detective Emmet Carver (Alce Hardy in the UK version) the lead investigator of a shocking murder that causes unrest in a small town.
Gunn, will play Det. Ellie Miller, a wife and mother who was passed over for a promised promotion in favor of an outsider, Carver, but her disappointment quickly fades in light of tragedy. Weaver, will play Susan Wright, a glowering, mysterious woman who is new to town. The cast is certainly shaping up to be an impressive troupe of performers and the creative power behind the project definitely bodes well for this adaptation
Filming is scheduled to begin in January.
