Activision Blizzard Launches TV/Film Studio
Video game company Activision Blizzard will soon be expanding to develop film and TV properties based on
Call of Duty and other game titles though its own operation, Activision Blizzard Studios.
The studio’s first production will be an animated series based on the
Skylander Academy video game property, a popular kids’ game. Justin Long, Ashley Tisdale, Jonathan Banks, and Norm Macdonald are already on board as voice talent.
Activision will most likely be partnering with established networks and studios for distribution of its content. Nick van Dyk, a Disney alum, has recently been named co-president of Activision Blizzard Studios and said that Activision’s movies and shows will benefit from the popularity their games and will simultaneously increase awareness and engagement of their franchise, according to
Variety.
The studio also hopes to create something based on the highly popular
Call of Duty franchise, plus Activision also acquired
Candy Crush Saga maker King Digital Entertainment. The company also launched an e-sports gaming division last month.
It will be interesting to see what content Activision Blizzard Studios is able to create and how video game fans will respond. Check back here at Entertainment Fuse for more news about the Activision Blizzard Studio devleopments.
