Marvel Studios' search for the lead role in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy has narrowed, as two names have come to the front at the moment: Zachary Levi and Jim Sturgess.
The actors contend to play Peter Quill, more commonly known as Star-Lord, a role Marvel started testing for last month. This character, a sort of policeman of the galaxy, leads the film’s titular group of superheroes, which includes, “Drax the Destroyer, a raccoon named Rocket and a sword-wielding woman named Gamora.”
Sturgess has led several prominent films such as 21, Across the Universe, and The Way Back. Levi, star of NBC's Chuck, has only one high-profile leading credit on the big screen thus far was voicing Flynn in Disney’s Tangled, but interestingly, he’s also connected to another Marvel property as he plays Fandral in Thor: The Dark World.
Variety also tells us an actor whose name has yet to be revealed might test for the role after the holiday season ends, so let’s keep that in mind.
Guardians of the Galaxy aims for release on August 1, 2014.
