Men in Black III hasn't really been talked about in awhile considering it's just under two years away from arriving in theaters. After a pretty lengthy lull in updates, JoBlo has reported on some interesting developments in the project.
As previously announced, in Men in Black III, Agent Jay (Will Smith) is sent back to 1969 to help a young Agent Kay (Josh Brolin) fight a villain named Yaz.
Now for the new, interesting, and somewhat bizarre tidbits:
- Yaz is the only actual villain in the film, and he will played by Jemaine Clement of Flight of the Conchords fame. Apparently this character is a “badass hell biker” who looks like a cross between Satan and Dennis Hopper. The character isn’t supposed to be of a humorous nature, which is odd considering Clement’s comedy pedigree, as the actor has received an Emmy Award nomination and Independent Spirit Award nomination for his comedic work.
- The young Kay, played by Brolin, is 26, whereas Brolin himself is 42. He certainly doesn’t look his age, but younger than thirty is a bit hard to believe, don’t you think? Unless this film is supposed to be an all-out camp-fest a la Army of Darkness, this probably won't work too well.
- There are also some celebrities from back in the '60s who are revealed to be aliens, such as Jimi Hendrix and Yoko Ono. It sounds like a gag for cheap laughs, but if it's written in a decent manner, it could work.
Well, there you have it: the big updates on Men in Black III. Is it just me, or does this sound just a little bit awful? Unless this film is trying to be purposefully bad for camp purposes, this probably won't end up being all that great. In any case, in the days of Hollywood's remake rampage, huge box office revenue is all but assured for the three-quel, even if it isn't exactly destined to be a classic.
