Just as we learn about the forward progress of the Assassin's Creed movie, Legendary Entertainment has announced the hiring of a new writer to take on Mass Effect.
After nabbing the rights in 2008, Legendary assigned Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, Thor) to the project, even going so far as to have him talk about the film during Legendary's Comic-Con panel last year. Well, it appears they're not happy with his take, as the production company has hired Morgan Davis Foehl to develop his vision for the film.
Foehl has a few action-oriented credits in development, but nothing big to his name thus far. Variety has learned Legendary likes that Foehl is a big fan of the games and that his writing has a "strong espionage bent" that they believe will be well-suited for this hopeful film franchise.
Meahwhile, Mass Effect retains a bevy of talented producers mixing both good movie people and folks who would likely not see the movie version be awful. The movie people include Legendary producers Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni as well as brothers Avi and Ari Arad, who have a number of video game adaptations in the works including Uncharted, Twisted Metal and Metal Gear Solid. BioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk will also produce as will Mass Effect executive producer Casey Hudson.
There's no timetable for the project, as Legendary needs a script it wants to go forward with. Hopefully it will come out at some point before 2183.
