Five years after the original Sin City, fans are still clamoring to know just what's going on with the supposed sequel. Plans have been in the works for quite some time but director Robert Rodriguez has entertained various other projects. Finally, Rodriguez, currently on the press junket for Predators, has some updates. Here’s what the famous director had to say to Digital Spy:
"We're still working on “Sin City,” I want to do it so we'll see. It's just a matter of when. We have a script... a rewritten script that we still have to write and it's just finding the right time slot to do it."
Considering the acclaim and cult status of the original film, it makes one curious as to why it has taken so long for a sequel to surface. No logical reason exists, but at every turn, the filmmaker seems to have a new project in the works.
Currently, he has an option on the Mike Allred comic Madman that he's held on to for 12 years now and he's also been tapped as the director for Marvel's planned Deadpool movie, but his involvement has not been confirmed. However, Rodriguez has always been quick to announce projects before they end up coming to fruition. Take his plans to have Rose McGowan star in a remake of Red Sonja, for example. The only sure thing coming up is that he will get behind the camera in September for Spy Kids 4: Armageddon.
Juggling all these possible projects, we couldn't possibly expect a return to Sin City before 2013 and that's if this supposed re-write occurs in the next six months. Basically, more waiting.
Rodriguez most recently directed the 2009 family film Shorts and produced Predators, which is out Friday. His next directorial effort, Machete, will be released in the fall.
