The CW Finds its Black Lightning
The CW has cast Cress Williams as the lead in its latest DC superhero pilot
Black Lightning,
according to Variety.
Williams is no stranger to the small screen, having previously appeared on
Code Black,
Hart of Dixie,
Friday Nights Lights,
Grey’s Anatomy, and
Veronica Mars. Now he will be playing Jefferson Pierce, a teacher who used to be a superhero. Pierce's daughter is an advocate for justice, which helps motivate him to get back in the game as the vigilante and DC Legend, Black Lightning.
Black Lightning was originally being developed by FOX, but has now found at home on the CW. It is being executive produced by Greg Berlanti, who also produces a variety of other CW shows including
Riverdale,
The Flash, Arrow, and
Legends of Tomorrow. Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil are on staff as writers for the project and Sarah Schechter is also an executive producer.
