Call the Midwife Renewed for Three More Seasons

The BBC has ordered three more seasons of Call the Midwife from Neal Street Productions, according to Variety. This will bring the show's total season count up to nine. Each new season will have eight hour-long episodes, plus a Christmas special. The new season will take the nuns and midwives into the mid-1960s and will most likely deliver dozens more babies, adding to the count that is well over 100, according to a statement from the creator, Heidi Thomas. Thomas also teased that there will be more stories about medical, social and emotional changes, and challenges, to explore. Call the Midwife first launched in 2012 and has been one of Britain’s most popular drama series and is the most watched drama series in the U.K. Netflix (U.S.) currently has the first five seasons available, with the sixth season scheduled to air on BBC One in early 2017. The latest Christmas special will also air on Dec. 25, 2016 in Great Britain. With Call the Midwife raising the bar each season, it will be exciting to see what comes next as the show approaches such an iconic time period in British history.
