Jessica Jones Will Have All Female Directors for Season 2
All 13 episodes of the second season of
Jessica Jones will be directed by women, according to showrunner, Melissa Rosenberg.
Rosenberg first made the announcement at the diversity discussion panel at the University of Southern California’s journalism school on Friday, according to
Variety. The panel was part of larger event called Transforming Hollywood 7: Diversifying Entertainment.
The stars of the show, Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) and Rachael Taylor (Patsy Walker) tweeted their excitement about the news.
According to a recent report from the Directors Guild of America, female directors were responsible for just 17 percent of all television episodes for the 2015-2016 season.
Another show that has been aiming to employ more female directors is
Queen Sugar, created by Ava DuVernay and executive produced by Oprah. The first season has had female directors for each episode so far, including Neema Barnette, Kat Candler, Ava DuVernay, Tina Mabry, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Tanya Hamilton, So Young Kim, and Victoria Mahoney.
Rosenberg didn’t reveal much else about the upcoming season of
Jessica Jones, except to say that the scripts are almost complete and shooting starts next year. No premiere date has been set, but the series is expected to return in 2018, along with
Daredevil.
