New Images Released of Valiant’s Ninjak
"Will Michael Rowe Be a Cut Above as Ninjak?"
Valiant released images in a press release this week of Michael Rowe dressed as Ninjak for its upcoming live action series on the martial arts warrior. The official announcement and more details will come October 8th during a panel at the 2016 New York Comic-Con.
Very little was known about the
Ninjak project before this most recent announcement. Valiant describes the series as the first of its kind - a feature-length original digital series. The project will be directed by Aaron and Sean Schoenke (
Bat in the Son, and
Super Power Beat Down on YouTube) and also feature actors Jason David Frank (
Power Rangers) and Derek Theler (
Baby Daddy) in key roles opposite series star Michael Rowe (Deadshot from
Arrow and
The Flash) in the titular role.
“We've been quietly working behind the scenes on [
Ninjak] since 2015 and are incredibly excited to be debuting the first look at footage this year at New York Comic Con. We've set out to make the best and most ambitious series ever produced in the digital space – one that will live up to the high standards we've set in publishing," said Valiant CEO & Chief Creative Officer Dinesh Shamdasani.
"As Valiant gears up for an upcoming slate of film, television and video game releases, we felt the timing was right to begin to produce live-action digital content that would both give ours fans an experience truly worthy of the Valiant Universe, while also introducing new fans to the Valiant characters in the same way the animated television shows of the 1980s and 1990s did for comics in years past. Get ready to lose your mind – seeing Ninjak in action for the first time in nothing short of incredible.”
The character of Ninjak was created by Joe Quesada and Mark Moretti in 1993 for Valiant Comics. After first appearing in Bloodshot #6 Ninjak soon earned his own series, which ran for 26 issues from 1994-1997 before being relaunched in 2015. Colin King (Ninjak) is the wealthy son of a British spy raised in Asia. When his father was killed by a rival agent, King goes into training, determined to continue his father’s tradition and bring his killers to justice as the deadly Ninjak.
According to
Bleeding Cool, other Variant characters expected to be featured on the
Ninjak series include X-O Manowar, Faith, Bloodshot, Divinity, Timewalker, Eternal Warrior, and one of their newest characters, Savage.
No official date has been announced for series production of
Ninjak or any potential broadcast date at this time, though much more information is expected to be released during the October 8th panel at the 2016 New York Comic-Con.
