‘Once Upon a Time’s’ Liam Garrigan joins ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’

Paramount's Transformers is a juggernaut of a film series that has seen the likes of Shia LaBeouf, John Malkovich, Frances  McDormand, Mark Walhberg and Stanley Tucci appear with the robots in disguise. Mashable has reported Liam Garrigan will join Transformers: The Last Knight as play King Arthur, a role he has already played in ABC's Once Upon a Time. Garrigan is an English actor who appeared primarily on TV, appearing in shows like The Pillars of the Earth, 24: Live Another Day and Strike Back and has appeared in the terrible sword and scandals fantasy The Legend of Hercules. He will be joining a cast that includes Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson, all respiring their roles and newcomers to the series Anthony Hopkins and Santiago Cabrera (Merlin, The Musketeers). Transformers has been a highly successful series, making $3.7 Billion at the box office with two of them, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Transformers: Age of Extinction making over a billion dollars each. However the critical reaction has been a lot more negative with the movies being a popular whipping boy for critics although audiences are much more receptive towards the series. Michael Bay will return as director but a new set of writers have written the screenplay, Iron Man writers Matt Holloway and Art Marcum and Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down). Transformers: The Last Knight will see Optimus Prime return to Earth to find an artefact from the past linked to King Arthur and Merlin that can bring back life back to Cybertron. This would not be the first time Earth's past has been linked with the Transformers with events like the building of the Hoover Dam, the Apollo 11 Moon Landing and the extinction of the dinosaur having Transformers connections. King Arthur's involvement in Transformers: The Last Knight would mean there are two movies featuring the once-and-future-king of England in 2017, the other being Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword being the other. Transformers: The Last Knight will be released in theaters on June 23, 2017.
