BBC America to Air Marathon of Original Series Star Trek Episodes in HD

BBC America will air digitally remastered episodes of
Star Trek during a four-day marathon in September. The episodes of
Star Trek: Uncut will be drawn from the first two seasons of the original series, and the air date of the first episode will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the premiere NBC broadcast on Sept. 8, 1966.
In addition to the
Star Trek episodes, BBC America fans will also be treated this fall to episodes of
Sherlock, and the first two seasons of AMC’s
Into the Badlands and
Humans.
All four shows are thought to be enticing and preparing viewers for the premiere of
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency on Saturday nights beginning in October. The series, which stars Samuel Barnett and Elijah Wood, centers on the unlikely duo of eccentric detective Dirk Gently (played by Barnett) and loner Todd (Wood), who team up to solve the strange murder of a millionaire. It is based on the novel series of the same name by Douglas Adams and written and executive produced by Max Landis.
Star Trek had an original run of 3 seasons and 79 episodes from 1966-1969 on NBC. The show has attained legendary status, helping to launch the careers of the original crew - including both Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner - before spawning a multimedia franchise of six television series, 13 movies, and countless books, video games, comics, and other spin-off media and merchandise. Opening in theaters this past July, the latest film,
Star Trek: Beyond, has grossed an estimated $231 million dollars in box office proceeds worldwide. A new show,
Star Trek: Discovery, will begin airing on CBS in January 2017, before moving full-time to new online streaming service, CBS All-Access.
The digitally remastered HD episodes of
Star Trek: Uncut will begin airing on BBC America on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 8:30/7:30c, and continue broadcasting through Sunday, Sept. 11.
