RIP “The Jim Gaffigan Show” (2015-2016)

Comedian Jim Gaffigan announced on Monday that his eponymous series The Jim Gaffigan Show will not return for a third season. Bad ratings or reviews weren’t the culprit for the show’s demise, but Gaffigan said he and his wife would rather to devote time to a more important project: namely, raising their five children. Gaffigan shared his reasons for ending the show via a post on the social media platform WhoSay. According to Gaffigan, he and his wife Jeannie (who also served as the show’s executive producer) made the difficult decision to end “this highly personal passion project” because they felt they couldn’t fully devote themselves to the series and raise their five children. A show starring, exec produced and created by Gaffigan, The Jim Gaffigan Show was an instance of art imitating life. The series focused on the stand-up comedian’s family life as he and his wife (played by Ashley Williams) raised their children in a New York City apartment. In addition, The Jim Gaffigan Show also featured Chris Rock, Bill Burr, Hannibal Buress, and other high-profile comics as guest stars. After it was shopped at several networks, The Jim Gaffigan Show eventually found an on-air home at TV Land. In a statement, the network said it was “really proud of The Jim Gaffigan Show and the amazing comedy that Jim, Jeannie, the cast, the creative team and JAX Media have made for us. After two great seasons, we have mutually agreed to not move forward with season three of the series. We have an incredible amount of respect for everyone involved, and are grateful to them for bringing their passion and dedication to The Jim Gaffigan Show.”
