Dwayne Johnson Interested in ‘Lobo’ Adaptation
We scoffed a bit when Warner Bros. hired
Brad Peyton, director of
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, to direct a big-screen adapation of
Lobo, which features one of the more violent (and comically so) characters in the DC universe. But now, Peyton's involvement has attracted the interest of his "Journey 2" star
Dwayne Johnson.
"The Rock" recently
tweeted this out to his fans and followers:
"@WritingAWonder Rumors of me possibly playing LOBO are true. Joel Silver and Brad Peyton working on it now. That could be fun.. #RockTalk
Fun indeed. Johnson is no stranger to the role of an anti-hero as seen in his starring role in
Faster, and his occasional leading toward the comic and theatrical, not to mention his devoted fan base and box-office appeal, make him a perfect fit for the alien bounty hunter.
Created in the '80s by
Roger Slifer and
Keith Giffen, Lobo was introduced in
Omega Man #3 as an occasional villain, but after some successful apperances in
Justice League International and
L.E.G.I.O.N among other DC notables, in the '90s he received his own mini-series that recast him an anti-hero meant to be an over-the-top satirization of Wolverine and The Punisher, yet he built a following for being just that.
There's no timetable yet for
Lobo, but there's not timetable for any DC heroes outside of Batman and Superman hitting the big screen until at least 2015.
